Can I use wholemeal flour as a thickening agent?

Or will it be grainy and vile?

I've no other flour in the house, but I have all other ingredients for Cottage Pie. The above thread put me in the mood 😍

On this, what if you used it in a bechamel? Do you think it would work?

Might just go for a mildly sloppy pie!

Sieve it a couple of times - that should lighten it a bit. It should work! Good luck 🤞

How did it go?

It'll be fine. I've used it in a bechamel and whilst it looks a bit grubby, it's fine.

It worked perfectly! Sifting the flour did the job, it's amazing how much you can separate the wholemeal bits from the finer stuff.

Another excellent MN tip 😃
