Puff pastrey left out overnight!

Help, I made little croissants , with store bought puff pastry last night but forgot to put them in the fridge to cook today. Will they be OK? The chocolate is dairy free, the puff pastry is vegan. (Not sure if this makes a difference but just to give a fill.picture!)

The kitchen is pretty cold, but been out around 10 hours

What would be the issue with it?

DustyLee123 · 27/02/2025 07:27

Yep, I’d cook them

Pleasetelllmeitgetsbetter · 27/02/2025 07:28

I’d have no problem with eating them.

Miranda1723 · 27/02/2025 07:28

I reckon they might not puff up as much in the oven, but they won't give you food poisoning.

RampantIvy · 27/02/2025 07:29

They will be fine. It is winter and it isn't a high risk food. I wouldn't eat shellfish that had been out all night, but pastry will be absolutely fine.

@DustyLee123 I have no idea but usually I can see on Google that it either is or.isnt fine but I can't really tell today! They are.wrapped in parchment paper also. And they LOOK fine. I guess I'm just being cautious

What do you think might have happened to them overnight?

mrsmombubbles · 27/02/2025 07:30

Thanks everyone for the very quick turnaround in responses :)

Enjoy your breakfast.

From a food safety POV, they'll be fine, but I'd put them in the fridge to chill them a bit before cooking.

Sure it's something to do with the butter (or vegan equivalent) being cold before that makes it puff?

Nothing at all and they look fine. I guess I'm just being cautious.

They'll be absolutely fine.

Itisbetter · 27/02/2025 08:26

As others have said they will puff better if slightly cooler but they won’t kill you. It’s fat and flour not meat.

Onlyvisiting · 27/02/2025 08:29

Are they cooked or raw? Cooked will be 100% fine, raw I would check for signs of surface mould first, then cook.
Bought pastry doesn't keep as well as homemade when raw IME, but still most likely fine.
