How long will a completely wrapped up cauliflower keep

Ive had it a week perhaps more. Completely wrapped in celophane (asda)

By now if it was an open one in one of the little bags it would have started getting those black spots on it, but this is still completely white and pristine

I can cook it up and roast it and then freeze it, but Id rather not if I dont need to

We are going on holiday and wont be back for a week and a half, so do I take the chance and leave it in the fridge or deal with it tomorrow morning?

I know things like cabbage keep forever, but normally cauliflower starts getting spots on it

Anyone?

I'd freeze it. Cauliflower needs to be loosely wrapped when you store it in the fridge, not tightly wrapped. Tightly wrapped cauliflower can develop the spores that could cause botulism!

Oh really, thats odd because by now if it was in the plastic bag type wrapping it would have got those spots on, but its sitting there pristine in tight cellophane

I will cook it up then and freeze it then, I dont like freezing raw cauliflower because the texture goes funny, but roasted and then put in a cauliflower cheese and frozen is ok. I just would have rather avoided the faff this weekend, got enough to do.

Personally I'd leave it I've got 2 week old cauli in the fridge right now. If I get a bit of black I cut it off. Still edible

Totally agree still edible, but then I lose the fluffy florets

If you don't want to to bother with the faff, just loosely wrap it yourself and chance it

Well because Im not convinced that unwrapping it and then loosely wrapping it is going to keep it like it is, Ive never bought a cauli wrapped tightly before, this was the first time, and Ive never seen one keep this long before so far. By now it would have the black spots on it that I normally see after a week/few days

Why did you buy cauliflower that you didn't intent to use anyway 😅

soupyspoon · 22/02/2025 07:50

I did intend to use it obviously!

If your cauli is in really good condition, I say it’d last, wrapped up tight, at least 10 days in the fridge.

Ive made two portions of cauliflower cheese and 2 portions of soup. Soup is already gone and unfortunately something has happened to quite a lot of the cauliflower cheese, half of it has vanished while waiting to cool to go into the freezer.
