Feta from sainsbury’s unopened- best before sept 2025
As soon as i opened it i noticed an unusual smell. I’ve had feta millions of times and hasn’t smelt like this before. Smells like a blue cheese or something just very cheesy. Taste was the same as usual so i ate it anyways! Am i going to be on the toilet for the next few days or am i good? Help please!

Hmmm. Well I mean if it didn't smell right I wouldn't have eaten it. Package could be punctured. I did once open an out of date one and the taste was sour. I could have eaten it

Was it the organic one? A packet of that completely ruined my recent pasta bake this week. It was very different to normal.

I ate some that was 9 months out of date once, it did smell a bit funny but looked and tasted fine with no ill effects.

However there's also some cheese in the fridge that is vacuum packed and well in date but I can see its mouldy and I plan to see if I can rescue some of it by cutting the mould off because ot could well be fine inside and it's an unusual type from somewhere I probably won't go back to for a while so I want to have at least some of it.

Cheese is aged for years and deliberately made to go mouldy, I'm not sure it has the capacity to make people ill (partly lighthearted to fend off the whataboutery).

If it’s Sainsbury’s home brand, the ingredients are a mixture of sheep and goat milk.

I get that occasionally (Dodoni brand imported into Australia) and think that the blend on occasion may have more goat milk than usual. Goat milk can smell very strong sometimes.
