Holiday club - packed lunches

DC 3.5yo is going to holiday club for the first time next week. We need to provide packed lunch. What do people usually include?

I was thinking sandwich, babybel, fruit and a yoghurt but feel this could get really repetitive for a week. I also want him to have what his peers will have as he’s more likely to eat!

What you've said will be fine. You can change the sandwich filling and type of fruit so it isn't exactly the same every day.

My kids school packed lunch is sandwich, crisps, fruit, yogurt & biscuit every day, without any complaints.

I suspect that will be exactly what the majority of his peers have. If you really think he will get bored with that mix it up with different types of bread (wraps, pita, bagel, roll) and different sandwich fillings. Cheese and crackers might be an alternative. To be honest if it's his first time just give him what you know he likes.

My daughter is 10 and has had broadly the same lunch for the last 7 years. I think variety at lunches is quite an adult concept; kids seem to like familiarity

I tend to rotate, but it's really down to what they like. For us:

  • cheese and/or ham sandwich
  • cheese and/or ham bagel or wrap
  • pasta with tuna, cheese and tomato sauce (he likes it even if cold)
  • pizza slices
  • chicken nuggets/sliced grilled chicken breast

Plus:

  • one piece/handful of fruit (it can be an apple or a satsuma or some berries/grapes/melon etc).
  • some veg (he only likes broccoli, sweet peppers or cucumbers and I rotate them).
  • something sweet: a couple of biscuits or a flapjack normally, occasionally a little box of raisins
  • something savoury: a little bag of pretzels or mini cheddars, few crackers/breadsticjs
  • occasionally (depending on how much protein I have already included as 'main'): a yogurt pouch or an individual portion of cheese (babybel or cheddar).

Thanks so much everyone!

Mine most often gets a meal deal from the petrol station (sandwich, crisps and a capri sun) plus a piece of fruit. 😂 So that sounds fine. Just be aware of any allergies and also if they need morning and afternoon snacks sent in too.
