Recently bought a cafetière and I’d love to hear your must buy coffees for one?

is there anything else I can use it for?

Taylor's of Harrogate Hot Lava Java.

It's supposed to be super strong but I don't find it so and I dislike strong coffee. The flavour is smoky rather than fruity so I assume that's what people mean.

Asda do a good knock off too.

I get all the different cheap supermarket ground coffees for mine, haven't had a bad one. I adore Lavazza though!

Do you like a strong coffee or a mellow one?

If you like mellow then M&S Kenyan and Ethiopian single origin coffees are excellent for the price.

We like Lavazza, but will drink almost any. The most important thing is it's fresh: keep in an airtight tin and try to use within a few weeks.

Very, very best of luck with your tastings @OP but surely cafetiere and filter are totally different things?

Filter is what it says - filter paper in a cone-shaped support. Uses very fine-ground coffee. The coffee grounds stay in contact with hot water for only a short while. Produces a very clear 'pure'-flavoured drink.

Cafetiere - a much coarser mesh that separates ground coffee from hot water. The coffee grounds, also much coarser, stay in contact with the water for significantly longer. The resulting coffee liquid is more robust/ feels 'heavier' in the mouth than filter coffee, often with a certain amount of coffee grounds suspended/sunk to the bottom.

Both these methods are ABSOLUTELY fine. It's simply a matter of personal taste.
But they are not the same.
