Moominmama0 · 29/01/2025 15:59

I'm going to start an acid watchers diet due to stomach issues.
I'm vegetarian and can't have tomatoes, onion , garlic or anything spicy which is what I eat a lot of!
So if your up for a challenge please help me with some recipes which would work. Thanks!

Look into Indian food, particularly Jain and Tamil Brahmin style. Temple style food also doesn't have onion/garlic.

Magicmagician · 29/01/2025 16:16

That sounds tough :( some ideas : A broccoli and cheese quiche with wedges and salad, leek and potato pie (can you have leek?), veggie burgers (homemade to avoid spices and onions), baked potatoes and toppings like cream cheese, cottage cheese or beans, cauliflower cheese, omelettes, pasta with a creamy sauce, soups and nice breads.

Hmm, possibly a bit too much cheese there!

PandoraSox · 29/01/2025 16:18

Asafoetida is a good alternative to onions and garlic.

Meadowfinch · 29/01/2025 16:22

I do a florence fennel gratin with layers of cheese sauce, sliced fennel and bread crumbs. I add a little sweet paprika but you might not like that bit. Crispy on top, filling and has lots of flavour.

A good lunch salad is grated apple and carrot with nuts and sultanas with a mild vinaigrette or just a good olive oil..

Baked stuffed peppers. Stuff peppers with a mix of wholemeal bread crumbs, black olives and fennel. Bake the peppers at 180 degrees for 45 mins.

Brocolli & blue cheese soup with chunky bread.

Stir fry? Use ginger, soy sauce and honey for flavour. Or a satay style sauce without the garlic (so, peanut butter, coconut milk, ginger, lime juice, sugar, soy sauce).

omelettes/frittata style stuff

cheesy quesadillas with quorn and avocado

fajitas with peppers, black beans, baby sweet corn and make your own spice mix with oregano, smoked paprika and cumin

all day breakfast - veggie sausages, eggs, avocado, hash browns, mushrooms, spinach

feta, lentil (from a pouch), beetroot salad with spinach leaves, roasted peppers (from a jar) and walnuts

Sausage and mash and peas

Japanese style food?
I've given up nightshade plants and particularly miss tomatoes and chilis and its not easy.
I have taken to eating plain separate bits if that makes sense rather than cooking to a recipe and find that works better.

verycloakanddaggers · 29/01/2025 16:33

Herbs - make a pesto without garlic, or use flavourings such as mint, thyme, oregano on salads.

Mushroom sauce minus garlic
Cheese or bechamel sauce

AdaColeman · 29/01/2025 16:33

Mixed beans or puy lentils with vegetarian sausages.
Spanish omelette with salad.
Cauliflower au gratin, various versions eg including pasta, adding cabbage or broccoli
Pasta Primavera
Risotto eg broad beans and asparagus, mushrooms, broccoli and peas

Gimmlett · 29/01/2025 16:34

Bubble and squeak with a fried egg
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/quinoa-salad-grilled-halloumi
Broccoli and blue cheese quiche
Apple, blue cheese and pecan salad.
Celeriac gratin.

Octavia64 · 29/01/2025 16:34

In many cases you can replace onion with leek without too much difficulty

AdaColeman · 29/01/2025 16:35

Mushroom stroganoff.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 29/01/2025 16:36

Can you tolerate cumin, coriander, and paprika?

I make black bean and sweetcorn tacos using a teaspoon of cumin, 1/4 tsp coriander, paprika, a pinch of dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Just mix the corn and beans together with the spices and microwave.

Potato, cheese, and bell pepper omelet?

Cauliflower cheese?

This. Nearly all S Indian food is free of these ingredients and delicious.

Im going to do this in the summer, Ive got all the books but not doing it now because I think its too hard in winter

Its very restrictive

Have you got recipe books?

soupyspoon · 29/01/2025 16:41

Every response on here is including foods you cant have on the acid watcher diet, its extremely restrictive

You cant have most diary, most nuts, cant have leek either, cant have spices, lots more things that would take too long to type out.

Blindedu · 29/01/2025 16:44

Pressure cook split yellow and split green peas with ginger, salt and pepper. When it’s cooked sprinkle cumin and olive oil on top.

Spanish tortillas, potato and egg.

Jacket potatoes with cheese (can you eat baked beans ?)

Dried green or brown lentils pressure cooked with a stock cube, cumin, paprika, olive oil, black pepper. Then add chopped parsley and coriander.

So, flavour will be a big issue. I definitely recommend using smoked paprika - it's not spicy, just gives a slight smoky flavour. Also, nutritional yeast flakes really help to add flavour to food.

I have recipe books but none on the AWD. It is restrictive but it's for a short amount of time. I'm hoping I'll then see my Tigger foods.

I meant dont you have the recipe books for AWD, Im keenly reading them so that Im prepared

Yes its only 28 days for the initial treatment part but the point is, people are suggesting based on you only mentioning about 4 things, not one post has suggested something you can eat on this diet.

I will be runnig my fridge and freezer down (still working through xmas food) and then doing a special shop for what is allowed.

Ah yes I understand, although I'm confident I can substitute other ingredients. I'm just stuck on these four as my diet is pretty much based around these things.

Well theres virtually no fat allowed, measurements for olive oil for example are half a teaspoon!!

Im usually a 4 tablespoon type of person, at least!

Same!
I think it'll be worth trying if it helps. I have heard a lot of good things about it. The FB group seems good but it's very USA products which doesn't help me much in my case.

I have a nice veggie bolognese which is carrots, celery, lentils, stock, and mushrooms. Add some cream maybe.
