Does anyone know if I can make home made Pakora in an oven or possibly an air fryer?

The deep fat fryer is on the way out.
It is only used for Pakora.

I haven't bought an airfryer.

You can make something similar, but it won't be the same (or anywhere near as nice in my opinion). Baking and frying are fundamentally different cooking processes which give different results. Submerging food in hot oil has an extremely rapid heat transfer, which air convection methods can't compete with and this speed is responsible for the structure and texture.

There are air fryer recipes for pakoras and onion bhajis on YouTube. They are not quite the same as deep frying, but on the plus side they don't stink the house out for days like deep frying does.

I have tried and failed with the air fryer and the oven so will be interested to see if anyone comes along with a good method! I hate the smell of deep frying so I order big bags online and keep them in the freezer. I use subzi spice based in Glasgow but deliver nationwide, they're very tasty.

Thank you everyone. I had assumed neither the oven or airfryer would suitable.
You can't buy parkora anywhere near here, too far south!
May see if I can find a small deep fat fryer and keep in the shed or garage.

I follow the recipe in The Shish Mahal Cook Book that I bought as a student in the 80s.
Also, use the Ashoka book bought 30 years later.
