Reheating Banana & Formula

Hi all,

We have just started to give our daughter food, alongside her formula.

We have blended banana & formula to quite a thin puree and then froze in an ice cube tray. My question is, when reheating in the microwave, why is this mixture ending up really thick? So much so we can't feed it to our daughter, as I feel it will just stick her mouth together!

I have been microwaving for 1 minute, stirring and then an extra maybe 30 secs, just to make sure it is piping hot. (Don't worry we will allow it to cool before feeding!)

Why are you freezing it, can't you just make it fresh?

This sounds like an awful lot of faff.

I mean we could, but just after some research about freezing food, we are planning on doing about 5 trays of food like broccoli, carrot and sweet potato. just for ease really. So, I guess I am also wondering, if the banana is doing this, will the other foods do it too?

Banana is one of the easiest foods to prepare for a baby, I can't see any benefit in freezing it. Blending it, freezing it then defrosting in the microwave takes much longer than just mashing it fresh.

How old is your daughter?

If it's too thick, add more formula when defrosting (or water). Both are fine and will thin out the puree for you to use.

It's common that things need additional liquid after being defrosted.
