All butter puff pastry?

Does anyone know where you can buy this these days? I always used to use JusRol all butter puff, but it no longer seems to exist, Tesco finest did one but no longer.
Used the non butter puff this Christmas and I really didn't like it.
I know you can make it but whilst I would never ever buy shortcrust because I make my own in a few minutes, puff is difficult and time consuming.

I saw it - briefly - on the Waitrose website, but it had sold out before they picked my delivery, and they are back to just the stuff with margarine in it. It’s OK, but not as nice as the all-butter.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 31/12/2024 15:11

Tesco had it this December, because we bought two! Last year I got it from Waitrose, they have it all year round I think. It freezes really well, so it might be worth your while getting some when you see it.

just remembered the Waitrose one is already frozen.

I've the same problem. I get round it by making my own ruff puff pastry. So not as labour intensive as puff, ( though, granted, not true layered puff) but somewhere in between where you freeze your butter and grate it directly into the flour. ( Hold the butter in its wrapper and keep dipping it into the flour, it grates easily and non-greasily, this way). It's waaay better than shortcrust.
"Delia Christmas", her sausage rolls recipe tells you how to do it, for quantities...

BIWI · 31/12/2024 15:18

I bought some in Waitrose this Christmas - they seem to be the only place that sells it now.

MJDecember24 · 31/12/2024 15:19

I got mine on Ocado. The margarine based stuff is grim. I used to live in France and the pastry from supermarkets there was amazing. I really miss it!

Arglefraster · 31/12/2024 15:26

M&S was the only place I found it this year - Tesco etc we're all full of palm oil Xmas Envy

OP, I've just looked up and, in fact, phoned The Dorset Pastry Company. They do all butter puff pastry ( in fact the man I spoke to said it had one of the highest percentages if butter).
They are closed for orders until 2nd Jan but then you can put an order in, no minimum quantity required.
Hope this solves the dilemma.

That brand is available from Ocado. The one I buy is Picard, which is cheaper.

I bought some in M&S on Friday.

Oh is it?
I used to find it in our local Waitrose, then it disappeared. That's helpful to know as I occasionally do an Ocado shop.

Oneearringlost · 31/12/2024 15:58

I'll look out for Picard. Thanks.

NotThisOldChestnutAgain · 31/12/2024 19:35

Thank you very much everybody, you've been very helpful.
@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g @Oneearringlost I make Delia's sausage rolls and vegetarian sausages rolls every year and have done for decades, since I had the original Christmas book, but have only tried the rough puff pastry once, it was a disaster, all the butter came out of the pastry, that's when I changed to bought puff.
There's a Waitrose near my son so I'll look when I go there, if no luck I shall contact the Dorset Pastry company recommended by @Oneearringlost and get a stash in the freezer.
I really don't know why so many places have stopped doing it since there's clearly still a demand and it's so much nicer than the margarine one. Strangely it seems if you want vegan puff pastry that is very easy to find, even in my local small Tesco. I suppose they're just jumping on the vegan trend bandwagon.

I bought some from Tesco this year, and it was horrible to work with. DD used it for our Christmas dinner and it was very sticky. After it was cooked it was fine (but no better than any other puff pastry).

SleepingisanArt · 31/12/2024 19:56

The M&S one is good (frozen, needs defrosting and rolling) and both the Picard (rolled into rounds not squares) and Dorset Pastry (single sheet, rectangle) ones are excellent - both are also frozen. I buy in bulk from Ocado and keep a selection in the freezer!

NotThisOldChestnutAgain · 31/12/2024 20:28

I just looked up the M&S one and it's in stock in a store near me. Thank you to those who suggested it.

I found the Picard one had a funny aftertaste. The M&S one is good.

amoreoamicizia · 01/01/2025 16:52

Call me a weakling but I prefer ready-rolled, I find it really hard/frustrating to roll out those blocks thin enough.

TheFlis · 01/01/2025 17:00

Tesco Finest still do it, I had some delivered this week and used it yesterday.

FlyingFlamingo · 01/01/2025 17:02

Our Tesco have the finest one occasionally, or I go to M&S - the frozen block is easier to find but sometimes they have a chilled ready rolled. I’ll look at the Dorset link above though, thank you! The whole making everything vegan is getting out of hand, the margarine ones are Envy and I say that as a vegetarian! I want real ingredients not lots of UPF Angry

Answeringaquestiontonight · 01/01/2025 17:05

M&S often have it. Can be worth checking the freezer section as well as the fresh section.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/01/2025 17:10

I want all-butter puff pastry not just because of the taste, but because the replacement fat is usually at least partly palm oil, which I want to avoid on environmental grounds.

I agree.
