Having a little celebration for 4 people at home and my DS has requested pasta. My immediate thought was lasagne but wondering if anyone else has some nicer ideas!

Blue cheese and pumpkin pasta is really simple but feels indulgent https://donalskehan.com/recipes/roast-pumpkin-blue-cheese-caramelised-onion-pasta/

Lasagne

TizerorFizz · 30/12/2024 12:29

Pasta with lobster? Or a delicious ragu? Pasta is an everyday cheap dish. The extra ingredients make it special. I’ve never had a special lasagne. Ravioli is more celebratory.

Our favourite is Nigel Slater's spicy sausage pasta.

I use extra thick double cream as it makes the sauce even creamier.

With warm sliced baguette to mop it up!

Aubergine timbale with plenty of cheese

Pastitsio

pumpkin, sage, and a funky cheese in a ravioli or similar, I like to make hearts. Brown butter and more sage with parmesan for a simple sauce. These flavours would also work as a bake or with gnocchi

Edited

Oooh, I would love this, but unfortunately blue cheese isn't a favourite for others. I'll definitely be making this at some point though

Pasta Norma or Pasta Alfredo are both delicious. You can ring the changes with pasta Alfredo by using prawns or flaked poached salmon instead of chicken.

Lobster Mac and Cheese, Seaford Lasagne,
Chicken and spinach Lasagne

Linguini with chilli, garlic and crab
Or fettuccine with nduja and burrata

Both simple but pack a punch on the flavour

Truffle Boursin!

Fry up some good quality pancetta cubes, add sliced leeks and mushrooms. Stir in the Boursin and add cooked fresh pasta.

That’s the one! Absolutely delicious.

Some fabulous ideas here! I don't think this is special enough but I've been obsessed with it recently Tiktok pasta. The cold yoghurt sauce with the hot spiced buttery pasta is just so satisfying.

Anna Paul's Viral Turkish Pasta

I made Anna Paul's Viral Turkish Pasta, and it did not disappoint. It is quite tasty and super easy to make, too!

Smoked salmon, creme fresh, dill, lemon, maybe some fried garlic, spinach. With plenty grated parmesan. I know they say no cheese with fish but I'm not buying it. It's quite an easy dish but I loved that as a teen. X

I don’t know that it’s celebratory but it is lovely and easy to make.

Personally I almost always make it with large prawns and chorizo but it’s lovely with the chicken and chorizo too.

In the spring/early summer (or use frozen/tinned), asparagus pasta:

https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/asparagus-cream-pasta

Even better with little petis pois added, and, if possible, fresh chervil and or fresh baby spinach stirred in.

Both served with very finely grated gruyere.

An alternative to peas would be very fresh small mushrooms plus a tiny bit of tarragon and lots of black pepper. And more cream.

Serve with lots of really nice fresh leaves plus either /or extra bitter leaves (chicory, radiccio, rocket) and roasted sweet fresh baby tomatoes.

Crab linguine with home made focaccia

Venison lasagne with a watercress salad and herb bread

I like Italian wedding soup and make a variation of it about every 2 weeks or so. I prefer pork or chicken herbed meatballs. https://www.onceuponachef.com/recipes/italian-wedding-soup.html

With nice bread and some cheese it is very hearty so you could have that and a fabulous celebration cake of some sort.
