Cooking loads of jacket potatoes!

I'm doing jacket potatoes for 17 people. The potatoes are quite large, and I'm cooking 25 so some people can can extra.
How long would you put them in the oven for? And what temperature?
I presume the large number will increase the cooking time?
Thank you Smile

Do them in batches in the microwave first for 15 minutes. Then in the oven oiled and salted for at least an hour.

160 for 90 mins, stick a knife in, if they aren't done put them in a bit longer.

That will take SUCH a long time with so many potatoes to do, though... Better to have them in the oven a bit longer and not have to mess around in the kitchen all the time, surely?

I agree with pp suggestion of 160°c for 90 mins. Best of luck!

I used to work in a tea room as a teen. The used to put the oven onto 150/60 and chuck as many potatoes in as would fit on the shelf. Think they took 1.5 to 2 hrs. Lovely skins on them.😊

I would do them well in advance individually wrapped in foil, for around an hour and a half, then, take out of the oven and pop in a newspaper lined large cool bag (or a hay box (literally a box of hay, plonk the potatoes in the centre and cover well) leave to carry on cooking using their own heat & will stay really warm for a good 4+ hours

Amazing - thanks all. Smile

Hope you have an enjoyable evening Xmas Wink

Make sure you've got the oven setting correct! Many years ago had to cook them for around 40 people, using a cooker I'd never used before. After about 30 minutes they were perfectly browned on top and completely raw underneath because I'd turned it to the grill setting Blush

Have had them cooked in the slow cooker too (brush with oil, salt then wrap tightly in foil, high for about 4.5 hours). They're ok for a crowd but skin not quite as crispy as in the oven.

As long as each spud has some room and they're not all piled on top of each other they should cook in the same time as normal. I normally give mine about 90 minutes. Definitely oil and salt on the outside 😋

How did they work out? Xmas Wink
