Our Tradition-
Pizza , home made
I put the dough on to prove in the morning , then get DS to grate loads of cheese
I make some pizza sauce and Domino inspired dip
DS and I have a competition to stretch out the dough ( one for DS , one for DD , bigger pizza for DH and me to share )

One meal (probably lunch) is Christmas leftovers so it’s just a repeat of Christmas lunch, but more buffet ish. Basically, I need to get the Christmas food out of the fridge before we can start to open anything else.

And one meal (usually dinner) is cheese, biscuits, pate, chocolate (and any more leftovers if anyone wants them). I don’t cook on Boxing Day.

Usually it would be leftovers. But if my son, who lives away, has only Christmas Day and Boxing Day off I'll do a roast and this year bought pork with crackling. Turns out he's probably going to a footie match then straight home after so I'll probably cook it on Xmas day for him to take as sandwiches to the match and me and DD can have it cold with the rest of the meal.

Going to my mums to watch footie , she’s doing a turkey joint and stuffing balls , roasties and gravy for us to make sandwiches . Not having a turkey Christmas Day dinner so looking forward to it - I love turkey and hopefully pick a couple up in reduced section next week

LardoBurrows · 21/12/2024 12:46

Usually cold Turkey and ham, any leftover bacon wrapped sausages and sausage stuffing from the Christmas Day roast. I serve this with baked potatoes, grated cheese, salad, chutneys, pickled onions and gherkins. Everyone gets a baked potato and everything else is laid out for people to serve themselves so they take what they want.

Pudding is usually a choice of trifle or a berry roulade, chocolate log, ice cream, or warmed up leftover Christmas pudding and custard.

I love the Boxing Day lunch/dinner after all the cooking on Christmas Day.

RaraRachael · 21/12/2024 12:47

I usually make a soup, quiche and sausage rolls. We also have leftover turkey and Xmas pudding with pickled onions, chutney etc.

Inextremis · 21/12/2024 12:48

I've had the same thing on Boxing/St Stephen's Day for the past 50+ years. Cold turkey (this year it's chicken), cold ham, mashed potato (hot), lettuce, tomato, cucumber, cranberry sauce and the essential pickled walnuts.

Breakfast is usually bubble 'n squeak, with a couple of fried eggs on top.

In the evening, we may have a mince pie, and will be attacking the cheese mountain.

Leftovers from Xmas day and eve

itispersonal · 21/12/2024 13:05

Turkey or ham baguettes with chips or crisps, salad and other nibbles.

I get double the turkey I need to have several days of left overs. Love it

SereneCapybara · 21/12/2024 13:17

Buffet of:

Baked honey-glazed ham with left over turkey
Salads
Fresh baked bread
Cheese platter with pickles, grapes, crackers
Home made soup
Trifle
Mince pies
Chocolate yule log
crisps, nuts, olives

tobee · 21/12/2024 14:28

Hot ham, baked potatoes and homemade coleslaw. Any other leftovers as people fancy

Solasum · 21/12/2024 14:34

Slow cooked ham and parsley sauce, peas and mash/left over potatoes

BeyondMyWits · 21/12/2024 14:39

Turkey and ham pie a la Jamie Oliver... plus a veggie pigs in blankets pie for Dd24.
Probably with bubble and squeak.

Then at tea time, just crackers, pringles and whatever folks want from the fridge. (Ham, cheese, pickles, pate, dip)

Cornecopia · 21/12/2024 14:47

May I ask what is a bubble and squeak recipe- I have never made it and feel I am missing out 🤣

Goag · 21/12/2024 14:48

Leftovers in sandwiches, love a stuffing sandwich

Haha.... there are probably as many recipies as there are people on the thread... everyone seems to have one.
Ours is leftover mash (a day or 2 old) with chopped up leftover cooked veg. (Often the traditional cabbage, but after Xmas, any leftovers in a bowl in the fridge get put in there.). Mix together, put a quick glug of oil in a frying pan and when hot, put potato veg mix in and fry, don't move it about too much, a nice crispy finish is what we like. Turn it all a few times to get crispy bits mixed through.

YogiLou · 22/12/2024 08:02

We are on our own for the first time on Christmas Day as both DS are with their GF families. So Christmas Day we are going out for a curry and Boxing Day it’s everyone to us for gammon in coke in slow cooker with cauliflower cheese, pigs in blanket, roasties and all the vegetables.

BigDahliaFan · 22/12/2024 08:30

Leftovers. Obvs.

My Boxing Day tea often ends up as ham, egg and chips and dh makes himself the second or third Turkey sandwich of the day. It's usually just us on Boxing Day. Last year we impromptu had friends round after we'd got lost on a walk and we're all starving...but we still just shared leftovers with them!

By the next day I'm craving salads.

VeryStressedMum · 22/12/2024 11:31

We always host so I cook enough food so that there are plenty of leftovers for Boxing Day and have Christmas dinner baguettes with gravy to dip or Christmas loaded fries with chips in the airfryer.
And a cheese board

Pascha · 22/12/2024 11:32

Whatever PIL are providing. I've heard rumours of roast lamb and / or cold buffet. Could be both...

Runnersandtoms · 22/12/2024 11:36

We always have steak and chips on Boxing Day. Turkey leftovers are turned into curry/stir fries etc but not necessarily eaten that week. Usually frozen in portions for future use. I wouldn't want to eat turkey two days in a row.

ClicketyClickPlusOne · 22/12/2024 11:38

Game pie, pork pie, pickles
Leftovers incl bubble and squeak.
