Glycerine or Glycerol for icing

Why do all Royal icing recipes specify glycerine and yet Google says Glycerol is edible and basically the same thing?? Asking because I can't buy glycerine anywhere but Glycerol is readily available. Don't want the cake to upset any tums😵‍💫

What big shops have you near you? Tesco sell it, Dr Oetker brand usually in baking section with icings etc. That is the main brand and should be in other big supermarkets too, have never seen or used glycerol.

Royal icing needs it to stop it setting rock hard but if you buy the royal icing instant mix (like icing sugar) it's already added so it's just add water rather than egg white/icing sugar/glycerine

Sorry should have said, I'm in New Zealand. Can't find glycerine in my supermarkets

Is a product called glycerol sold in baking sections of the supermarkets you do have? If it is then I'd assume they actually are the same and maybe it's just different name in various countries.
