Christmas brunch

What would you serve on Christmas Eve for brunch?

Thinking of inviting a few friends and family to drop in and they probably won't all come at the same time so I need things that I can top up.

I was originally thinking just nibbly bits but we go to the pub late afternoon so will need our stomachs lined....there are no kids or special diets to consider (and I'm a good cook but short on brunch experience!)

But surely visitors will have had their breakfast before they visit?
I think I'd stick to lunch buffet food ; sausage rolls, quiche, sarnies etc.

I'd also quote a time-frame, something like "drop in between 11.00 & 14.00."

You don't want them turning up when you're still in your dressing gown, or almost out of the door on the way to the thimble of sherry that MNers allow at Xmas.

Honey and mustard cocktail sausages
Homemade cheese straws
Maybe some fingers of a fritata
Crusty bread
Those mini bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon
Garlic mushrooms to go on toasted of baguette

Instead of the crusty bread and mini bagels, how about a Bagel Bar? Lots of pre-sliced bagels + assorted toppings for everyone to choose from.

Smoked salmon croissant sandwiches https://www.coop.co.uk/recipes/smoked-salmon-croissants

I always do a fruit salad for a buffet style brunch. In the past I’ve done this Israeli fruit salad https://jamiegeller.com/recipes/israeli-fruit-salad/ and this Persian one https://www.food.com/recipe/persian-fruit-salad-28345 Delicious with toasted panettone and creme fraiche.

Yes I'll be having a time frame....maybe I'll make it 12-2 and make it lunch

My Aunt used to do this on Christmas eve or boxing day as she always had lots of different relatives popping in. She made the most amazing soup which we just knew as Christmas soup. It was chunky with ham, pasta and lots of veg and there was always lots of nice bread and butter, cheese and cold meats and nibbles. She would make a huge pot and people would help themselves to a mug. It was amazing I wish I had gotten the recipe as I miss it so much 🍲.

It wouldn't have even occurred to me to do soup, but that's actually a great option!

I make this creamy trout pate (except I do hot smoked salmon) every Christmas for elevenes. I serve with toasts or Melba toast or ryvita, not the Yorkshire puds that Jamie suggests. It is always a hit and very moreish.

If you’ve got a slow cooker then use it to keep soup warm and people can be served as they arrive
