Which supermarket does the best breaded chicken with minimal additives?

KatyMac · 26/11/2024 18:43

I need quick protein and I like breaded chicken

But I dont really want too many additives - so I'm looking for the best of a bunch - I like the makers to list ingredients rather than chemicals🙄

Tesco do a frozen one but it's never in stock

Do any of them do anything good?

(Yes I can and do make my own, just not for a quick sandwich for lunch)

M&S

4titude · 26/11/2024 19:50

The tesco fresh one in the cardboard that peels away from the plastic is the same product as the M&S one.

Monty27 · 26/11/2024 19:52

Tesco finest or Sainsbury's taste the difference

Movinghouseatlast · 26/11/2024 19:55

You could bulk make your own and freeze stacked between pieces of greaseproof paper. I use Panko breadcrumbs.

doodleygirl · 26/11/2024 19:57

M & S chicken tenders are the only ones I buy

Chowtime · 26/11/2024 19:58

Waitrose do chicken breast nuggets in breadcrumbs that contain only chicken breast pieces

Lilyflame · 26/11/2024 19:59

Waitrose frozen chicken mini fillets
or Leon from Ocado ?

ToThineOwnSelf · 26/11/2024 19:59

The M&S gluten free ones are the best I’ve found so far (I’m not GF but just prefer them)

Nottodaygoaway · 26/11/2024 20:05

M&S as well. Very nice in a bun with lettuce and mayo.

Outlookmainlyfair · 26/11/2024 20:13

Agree with @Movinghouseatlast they are easier than you think and so much better, you can add extra spice (I often use paprika and garlic). They freeze well and are cheaper than pre-made.

Snugglemonkey · 26/11/2024 21:37

I am another recommending just making them. You can use different spices, keep them plain. I just use egg and panko. They freeze so well too and you can put them straight in the oven/airfryer frozen.

Lisbeth50 · 26/11/2024 21:47

M&S

roobyred · 26/11/2024 21:49

You've just reminded me about Lisa Faulkener's rice crispie chicken. Google that. It is delicious and easy. I'm going to make it tomorrow.

Costco premium chicken nuggets

That’s what I do for ppl that like breaded chicken bits as you can ensure the provenance of the chicken used. I only support free range chicken, but preferably organic too.

Yes. You can also use up ends of bread and know what is in it.

Honestly will never understand why when someone comes on asking for a recommendation for a shop bought product people go onto say just make it yourself. Especially when the poster has included in their post that they already do but are looking for a convenient alternative. I agree the M&S gluten free ones are the best ones I've tried, I actually received them as a sub and now buy them regularly. Lovely in a wrap with salad.

TheTruthICantSay · 27/11/2024 10:37

we buy these a lot. They are quite processed though, but at least I recognise all the ingredients! Grin.

And yes, I make my own but bloody hell, these are a LOT easier and I can toss them in my (insanely hot) air fryer for 12 minute and bam, dinner for DD or, added to a bun ,a quick chicken burger for Ds after school!

suki1964 · 27/11/2024 18:15

If you are looking minimal additives and not prepared to make your own, look in the freezer sections

Freezing is the preservative. "Fresh" needs all the help it can get

Frozen is frozen within minutes, fresh can be 6 days old, sometimes longer

KatyMac · 27/11/2024 22:17

@TheLadyIsAVamp 😁🙄

Thanks all, I'll have a look - but so many have calcium carbonate in them, which seems bizarre

Yes frozen works

What’s wrong with that? Nothing unhealthy about it.
