Watermelon food poisoning

hi, I was hoping someone could help give some reassurance or advice on this I went out for a meal on Saturday and had a burger which seemed to be fine then later that night I bough some precut watermelon from Tesco which I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to eat at the time 🤦🏻‍♀️ a few hours later I started throwing up it seemed to stop through the night but then carried on all day the next day I’ve had some fluids but still feel a bit off , now I can’t stop worrying about listeria as google told me that’s the likely one to get from watermelon , has anyone else experienced anything like this ?🫣😳🥲

Probably more the burger than the water melon.

smooththecat · 26/11/2024 17:11

I’m pretty sure I got food poisoning from pre-cut melon once. I don’t eat it anymore.

smooththecat · 26/11/2024 17:12

It was also from Tesco 😮

What do you mean ‘didn’t know you weren’t supposed to eat?’

It was more likely to have been the burger. I’ve travelled around Asia, and the hard and fast rules for fruit stalls for example is to avoid pre-cut fruit and eat whole fruit instead. Assuming you’re in the UK, there are stricter hygiene standards so I doubt some pre-cut fruit from a supermarket would have been the cause, though not impossible.

I eat watermelon every day and have done for about five years. It’s never made me ill.

EmotionalSupportPotato · 26/11/2024 17:29

Why aren't you supposed to eat watermelon?

Fever'n'ague. Everybody knows that.

thatsawhopperthatlemon · 26/11/2024 17:35

Did you have salad or coleslaw with the burger? It could just as easily be that.

merryhouse · 26/11/2024 17:35

But having thought about this again, I've realised that the OP is pregnant and worried about the very real issues of listeria.

OP, the NHS pages suggest you give your midwife a call, or NHS111. It says you might need antibiotics.

Bippityboppitybooo · 26/11/2024 17:38

Op, I'm a weird one body wise, but I developed a melon allergy in pregnancy. Apparently its not even that uncommon.

??? Care to explain ?

I can't be the only person who hasn't got a clue what you're talking about.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 26/11/2024 17:48

Why shouldn't you eaten watermelon?

ConstitutionHill · 26/11/2024 17:52

@merryhouse - Pa insisted that it wasn't watermelons but instead the "night air" that caused fever 'n ague. Ma however was not convinced, saying "those melons 🍉 grew in the night air"

rainbowbee · 26/11/2024 18:01

But they actually had malaria, which some mosquitoes give to people when they bite them ❤️
