We can't go away this year, so I'll be cooking for the 2 of us at home.
Both dislike turkey.
We've had goose in the past (love it), but arthritis means it will be difficult to lift in & out of the oven.
We're omnivores, & I want something special.

All major supermarkets are within easy reach, but there's no such thing as a local butcher or fishmonger.

Any suggestions, please ?

Rib of beef on the bone
You may struggle at the supermarket though, you don't want a prepackaged one.
If you have a supermarket with a butchers counter you may be in luck.

Duck as a smaller and easier to handle version of goose? Or I would do a beef wellington if you fancy something different.

Daube of venison 🦌 🦌 🦌

Rack of lamb 🐏 🐏 🐏

A partridge each, you could braise them in white wine with raisins and dried figs.

Ostrich steaks with béarnaise sauce. 🦚 🦚 🦚

M&S will probably stock the first three items, Ocado for the Ostrich.

We're just two as well. I'm cooking Gresham Duck with an orange gravy, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets and veggies.

Followed by mince pies and ginger ice cream. 🤗

This duck ragu is just delicious https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/venetian-duck-ragu

Most supermarkets sell venison. This venison bourguignon cobbler is special https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/food/recipes/a35478976/venison-bourguignon-cheese-cobbler/

We had a year like that and decided to cook something we know we love rather than try to have something 'festive' for the sake of it. Rib eye steak, fries , veg and peppercorn sauce with lemon meringue pie for pudding (and lots of cheese later on). Quick to cook, fab to eat, not much washing up. More time to go for a walk or snuggle in front of the telly.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
We actually have most of them regularly.
I'm quite a good cook, but Beef Wellington was a disaster, never to be repeated.
Incredible coincidence, but we had the duck ragu on Wednesday.

I think I'll check out Waitrose & M&S freezer cabinets. I can't bear the thought of joining the shopping scrum on Xmas Eve.
