Vegetarian starters for Christmas Day

Does anyone have a good idea for a vegetarian starter than is also preferably dairy free to kill two birds with one stone!

Everyone else is having a prawn cocktail or smoked salmon with brown bread. (Dairy free person does not like fish)

Ideally it needs to be prepared in advance so served cold or just warmed through.

Garlic mushrooms.

A soup with coconut milk as the base.

An olive or mushroom pate and the bread you are already using. Personally I love both, but I know they are both idiosyncratic tastes.

Not called Parmesan though
Theyll be called hard cheese or similar

On Waitrose website there's Waitrose Italian Vegetarian Parmesan Cheese Strength 4, it has rave reviews too. Good enough for me!

I’m an Aldi shopper so I had to look 🤣
Its not actually called Parmesan on the label if you do a zoom in. They use the word Parmesan in the description online only.

The word ‘Parmesan’ is protected ( European Union , not sure elsewhere ) a bit like the word ‘Champagne’.
So if it’s not actually Parmesan it’s called hard cheese …… like Parmesan or similar.
Parmesan, isn’t vegetarian so no Parmesan with the word is vegetarian. There are Lots of hard cheeses now like Parmesan though like your Waitrose one

Does any of that make sense 🤣
