Anyone got a good alternative to Beyond mince?

Some of the household are veggie, some are meat-eaters. Everyone liked Beyond mince - it was 'meaty' enough for everyone while still being veggie.

Then the company stopped selling it - it was pretty expensive so I'm not shocked (I always used to buy when it was on offer).

All the other supermarket alternatives have since been rejected by the meat-eaters, leaving me either having to make two separate meals, which is a faff, or do something else entirely, and so classics like spag bol or cottage pie have fallen off the radar.

Has anyone got anything which resembles Beyond mince as a meat substitute?

I recently made some grated/shredded tofu for a cottage pie - I've lost the recipe but there are loads online if you Google. A bit faffy but you can make in batches and freeze it. I thought it was really good but have been veggie a long time - worth a try though?

Quorn is gluten free barley so fine for coeliacs. Not OK if you have a barley allergy. I just double checked as had a total panic that the recipe had changed!

Marmite isn't gluten free though!

Oh I know, I have barley issues as well. 🤦‍♀️ Sorry to panic you haha!

Urgh, I know. I have to settle for Meridian yeast extract! Which is nice but not quite the same. I just add even more salt to the jar haha!

No worries. Quorn mince is an awful texture anyway so you’re not missing much. Tesco own brand marmite is quite good.

That's good to know, every time I see it I have fond memories but literally can't remember anything about it. 😆 It's such a shame how so many of the brands aren't GF when I'm pretty sure they could be. Oooh I'll have to investigate! I always thought they'd all be unsafe so just picked up Meridian and stuck with that - I'll have to to some taste tests!

What about using sausages and balling the meat up into little bits like mince? We do this for a pasta sauce we make and it works well.
