Do you have dessert after dinner?

And if so what do you usually have?
we only have it on a Sunday after our roast, but after visiting in laws who do it after every meal it’s oddly comforting.

We don't purely because I make pretty big portions for dinner so we're usually full 😂 I tend to make apple crumble and custard after a Sunday roast though, for some reason I can always find room in that instance!

I don't, but my parents and siblings do! Usually homemade cake of some sort or maybe trifle/ crumble with custard/ cheesecake etc.

If I did that I'd be huge! Puddings are strictly for special occasions for me, and tbh even if I eat out I'd go for a starter over a pudding. But the difference is I am (and have always been) a grazer, whereas my family don't snack at all in between meals. Luckily none of us is overweight but I know for sure if I added a slab of cake to my daily diet I would be 😅

No hardly ever.... only if we have company. However I do like something sweet after a meal...but I usually have something small like a mini kinder bar or a macaron

Yes, always without fail. I love pudding. Life's too short not to have pudding.

You are very kind, OP.

Puddings are usually simple, as above or a simple sponge with poached fruit, except for special occasions.

We love fish and seafood, whole, filleted or in soups and stews at the weekend. Marinading and grilling, baking or sauteeing fillets or a whole fish, or prawns or scallops, is quick and easy if a bit of a splurge. But we are omnivores and like everything from a great roast to delicious tofu dishes.

My rule of thumb is: a simple main dish needs interesting vegetables and vice versa. (Of course there are exceptions).

We have either a starter, such as soup, pasta or risotto, or a green salad after the main course. Seldom both.

DH and I often have wine with the nice meals, but not always. When we do I often look for a way to use part of the bottle in the cooking. We try to keep to 10–15 units/week.

That sounds fantastic, I may just take a leaf out of you book 😀

Yes we always have a cake on the go or have an ice cream, yoghurt, some chocolate or fruit.
I often make cookies or something easy like a rice pudding.

Citygirlrurallife · 05/11/2024 19:51

Only if we have guests. Unusually bake once or twice a week so kids have a cake or brownie or whatever when they get back from school rather than after dinner

What type of puddings do you go for?

Well after all this pudding talk I nipped to Tesco and got an apple pie with custard, and a Belgian chocolate and salted caramel tart!! The children and dh all devoured it 😂

Oh, don't get me started... homeade rice pudding, chocolate brownie from co-op with double cream, chocolate trifle, syrup sponges with double cream, lemon posset, Eton mess. I mean, sometimes we might just have a fancy yoghurt or some chocolate, but I have such a sweet tooth. I always look forward to pudding!

Ooooo I think I’m going to make an Eton mess this weekend

On weekdays I have coffee and a nice chocolate. On weekends I have a small dessert too. As for not putting weight on I do exercise quite a lot pretty much every day. But I still only have a small dessert in a ramekin. That's the key for me, exercise and smaller portions.

BobbyBiscuits · 06/11/2024 12:55

I wish, lol! No I often do make cakes and stuff but usually eat them during the day. I sometimes have chocolate or something after dinner.
But usually I don't have room for a big plate and a pudding. Not that I wouldn't try if someone offered me one. They never have, sadly!

Violetviolin · 09/01/2025 09:16

Usually one dessert per day - fruit and yogurt or a few squares of dark chocolate and a coffee.
