Bonfire night dinner

Have family coming over this evening before we go to the local village fireworks.
6 adults, 9 kids aged 2-15.
Was planning on just doing hotdogs and mushy peas, but SiL has mentioned 2 of hers aren't eating sausages atm!
Any ideas what I can make that is relatively simple, not going to have a huge amount of time to shop and prep this afternoon otherwise pulled pork or something could have worked.
I thought of doing a macaroni cheese or pasta bake as well as the sausages but thought it might be a bit random?

Mac & cheese sounds lovely. I don't think kids (or even me) really care about things always 'going' together. My other suggestion would be fish fingers which would could put in the baps like you would the sausages.

It depends why they're not eating sausages (and hot dogs are a bit differnt), is it because they're not eating pork, gone of sausages but perhaps not hot dogs, or have they gone veggie or something

To know this affects what else you can substitute with, the simplest swap is bacon perhaps or chopped up burger to put into the hotdog rolls.

This is simple yet yummy and comforting realfood.tesco.com/recipes/loaded-baked-sweet-potato-skins.html

Macaroni cheese sounds fine - or perhaps put some baked potatoes in.

If they aren't eating sausages then they can presumably managed with a jacket potato with butter, and maybe cheese/beans?

A big batch of spag Bol with some garlic bread. Can’t go wrong with that surely!?

Tater Hash and Parkin

Hi @Jasmin71 please can I ask your tater hash recipe? Mine is more stew consistency and after a better recipe x

Baked potatoes are pretty traditional bonfire night fayre. They can be cooking whilst you’re at the display.

We're doing this Saturday, I'm doing a big pot of chicken and chickpea curry, aloo saag, rice, naan, raita and chutney

The idea of fish fingers instead of sausages in the buns for some is a good one and goes with the mushy peas

SweetPeaPods · 05/11/2024 11:49

Fantastic thanks all

Mine is a stew, sorry. We have it with shortcrust pastry on top like a pot pie. Served with pickled red cabbage.

Beef mince Chilli con carne. If you have done, do it in an Instant Pot

Serve with +/- baked potatoes, baked potato wedges, cheese, tortilla chips, diced avocado, rice, tomato salsa, sour cream, cornbread etc
