Healthy recipes for someone who can't cook

I can cook... And quite well BUT I don't think the food I cook is healthy enough for me right now.

I need some recipes that are so easy that I could cook them as a sidedish for myself and cook for my family as I normally would.

I am currently at a BMI of 25 and need to lose some weight so I am hoping I can do this through my diet.

Thank you!

I'm not sure what you mean? So you planning on cooking separately for yourself and your family. You say you want a recipe for a side dish but don't mention what main you intend to have. I'm confused!

Salmon fillet and tender stem broccoli and/or other veg, all done in oven together? Very easy so you can concentrate on whatever else you're cooking

If it's not healthy for you then it's not healthy for your family either! What sort of things do you cook now to give us an idea of the sort of thing you can cook and enjoy eating? It might just be portion control that you need to adjust.

Actually lots of combinations of protein and veg can be done on a single tray or pan in the oven, you can just add things to the tray at different times according to cooking times required.

Do you have a freezer? If you have time one day to make a big veg chili or dal or soup you could freeze it in single portions so you can just defrost one for you whenever you want it

Can't you just take a few very simple measures, e.g.:

  • smaller portions for you, normal size for everyone else
  • try to limit cheese, which is delicious, but very high in calories
  • fill up on salad, plainly cooked veg, some fruit
  • cut back a bit on carbs, especially white flour, bead, rice pasta - go for wholegrain options and pulses instead
  • cut out sugar and sugary drinks as much as you can
  • cut back or eliminate alcohol
  • retrain your tastebuds not to expect sweet tastes - personally I think sweeteners are horrible so I don't eat or drink food with them in, and I think that helps with not eating and drinking too many sweet things
