Looking for a book on overnight breakfasts

Looking for book recommendations for make ahead breakfasts like overnight oats etc. I know I can find recipies online, but I like the look and feel of a book. I found a few amazon but not many reviews so wondered if anyone had any recommendations.

Or baked oats

That looks lovely. I think I'm looking for recipes I can make ahead for the whole week, so they are done and I'm not tempted to cheat and have a slice of toast.

Sorry just scrolled further down that page and seen the other recipes, just wish I could find a book with all that in.

I doubt there is a book, the premise would be too specific. I remember I once wanted a book of recipes for rammekins and struggled to find one!

For what it's worth, I have made baked oats. The idea was much more appealing than the outcome!

Could you write them out onto cards or into your own book?

I've done a variant on the egg muffins and they can be frozen, as can the wraps. I accept they aren't oats though!😀

It's all just a bit of a faff, I love a book I can ad post it notes to or amend the recipies.

My husband is about to retire soon having rarely had breakfast at home I need something healthy that I can prepare for the week when we are home. If I keep yoghurt and fruit in the fridge he will just snack on it and there will be nothing left for breakfast.

If you like the idea of overnight oats, it is possible to freeze yogurt, so it hopefully wouldn't have disappeared by the time you need it. I also have frozen fruit in the freezer, some are bags of 'wonky', some I've frozen, so I can pull some out the night/afternoon before.

Are there health reasons why your retired DH isn't allowed to snack on fruit and yogurt? Confused.

I really can't imagine why you need to prepare a week's worth of breakfasts at a time .... perhaps you can explain. My DH is retired and is perfectly capable of preparing his own breakfast.

I know this comes across as sarky but I genuinely don't understand why you want to do this. Can't you just buy a pack of muesli or granola ?

DaveWatts · 30/10/2024 08:21

Bircher muesli will keep for several days, if you add the grated apple fresh each morning. I don't use a recipe but just add different spices/nuts/dried fruit depending on what I fancy. Could you print off some recipes and pop them in a folder instead?

It's difficult to explain, of course he can snack on anything he wants, but as he has never had breakfast at home only on a Sunday, he will skip it and then binge on toast and chocolate later. I'm trying to think of a way we can start to be healthy with a good breakfast and if there is something prepared for the week we are more likely to stick to it, and not eat it for snacks as it set aside for breakfast.

And yes I have muesli and granola but it gets a bit boring.

It makes sense to me.

I'd make a list of options:

  • overnight oats (I don't make a full week's worth but do make up to 3 days in advance)
  • eggs (make on the day but at least it can be planned and is healthy)
  • porridge (see Nigella's website for suggestions about making it in advance) with different fruits for variety
  • occasional take out (e.g. if he's retiring, he might be out and about and can schedule in that once a week, say, he'll have something while out - I like sausages in a bread roll as a treat or a cooked breakfast

Can Porridge (Oatmeal) Be Made in Advance? | Ask Nigella.com | Nigella Lawson

Hi, I am just wondering if porridge can be made in advance and kept overnight or for a few days? I have been eating instant porridge and am concerned about the sugar content. I would like to make my own but am usually on a tight morning schedule. Can I...

Thank you, I know retirement can take some adjusting to and I'd like us to start reasonably healthy rather than just grab and go and everyone for themselves.

Batch cooking type books could work too - some will make breakfast items that can be done ahead of time. Most of the Batch lady cookbooks have breakfast sections (I've just looked at Grab and Cook which does).
