HOW DO I THICKEN SOUPS?

I wanted to make a nice soup much like the tinned veg soup you can get from the shop but I can't make it so it has that thick creaminess that tinned soup does. How can I make soup like, for example, CROSSE & BLACKWELL's winter vegetable soup?

floury potato (old ones not salad or new, King Edwards are good), cornflour - remember mix with cold water before adding to soup, make sure to cook it out though (cook at temperatue for 10 mins. You can also use flour but this is less effective. Use more starchy veg like parsnip and swede and as other suggested 50% blend. You can also add in fromage frais or cream as that will also give a different mouth feel

I freeze any leftover roast potatoes to use in the soup maker . Also freeze finely chopped roast onions in small tubs .
The soupmaker has a saute plate but it can get too hot .
The oil in roasted vegetables means I don't need to add any more .

Last week I made chilli tomato soup with the last of my homegrown tomato crop , it was delicious !

I used to use potato but pearl barley does amazing things to soup. And sooooooo good for you.

I would go for the "take a third out and blend it" approach.

Have you tried blending in some Tories?
