Hello everyone! What do you think about a plant based diet? What are the benefits or can it have any negative effects?

homework or lazy journalism? Who can tell?

I think it is an excellent idea to eat lots of (seasonal) fruit and vegetables in as natural a form as possible, whilst getting protein etc. from pulses, nuts and seeds.
I do not think eating highly-processed and nutritionally "poor" meat or cheese substitutes is a very good or healthy idea.

A lot of vegans end up eating more highly processed food than non vegans. I don’t believe it’s a healthy choice.

I've been trying different things, I mean food, diet and I thought I'd bring this topic up here on the forum hoping that someone might have a broader understanding of the subject. The internet is full of various information and additional questions don't hurt😊

It can be as healthy or unhealthy as any other diet depending on your choices.

A diet of pepperoni pizza and chips or chicken nuggets and chips isn't great whether you have meat or vegan versions. Same with cake and vegan cake.

I eat mainly pulses such as lentils and beans because I never liked the texture of meat. Though I do like a Linda McCartney sausage. And I eat Fauxmagerie cashew based cheeses.

Unfortunately a bottle of wine and a family bag of Pipers Salt and Vinegar crisps is vegan, but not healthy.

A whole food plant based diet is great. That's minimally processed as well as plant heavy.

People equate plant based with vegan but I take it my diet is based on plants. I eat meat occasionally, if I fancy it or don't like the alternative. But once or twice a month max, for me.

Let me Google that for you.

Well no, it may not be a 'healthy' choice for those vegans who eat highly processed and carb heavy diets (though it's still better for you on balance than a red meat heavy diet) but as not all vegans (or even most) eat that way you can't say it's not a healthy choice full stop.

OP, if you're interested, try the website Nutrition Facts. Lots of good information about eating whole food plant based and research around it on there.

I think it's very healthy to eat less meat, less processed food and eat plenty of beans/pulses/big variety of fruit/veg/nuts. I don't think eating processed vegan stuff is necessarily very healthy.
