I love cooking and, although there are of course times when I want to do something quick, there are times when I enjoy pottering in the kitchen all day to make something really delicious.

im taking a week off work soon but am just staying at home. Really looking forward to some days in the kitchen cooking.

Would love some suggestions for things to make that take a long time but justify it by being lovely. Nice homely dishes ideally rather than cheffy.

Sourdough will definitely feature. Maybe a pork pie? What else?

I love making a lasagna but with homemade pasta sheets and the sauces etc homemade. Even make a homemade garlic loaf to go with it. Such a lovely meal and freezes great

Now the autumnal weather has set in DS has asked for this oxtail stew. I’ve promised him I’ll make it over Xmas when I’m at home more.

Pork pies are great fun to make, and last Christmas I made home made corned beef from a salted, lightly smoked beef brisket. I’ve always wanted to try croissants, and my own faggots from minced liver.

French onion soup is a great one for pottering. Jamie Oliver has a nice recipe

Home made lasagne is the best but I so rarely bother because of the faff. Also like an occasional steak and ale pudding and fish pie.

scotch eggs and cheese soufles are fun to do if it’s just me, DH and 1 or 2 DC.

Proper Vietnamese pho, homemade ravioli, cassoulet or Pierogis would be my choices.

This recipe pops up on a Yotam Ottolenghi Facebook group a lot: thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/yotam-ottolenghis-stuffed-aubergines-in-a-curry-and-coconut-dal/

Every single person has commented on how long it takes (a lot start some prep the day before) but everyone says it's worth it. I haven't braved it yet.

The boxes from the spicery are brilliant too. I feel like we use every pot, pan and utensil for the date night boxes but it all comes together to make a really special dinner with a starter, main and dessert. The other boxes usually have either a starter and main or a main and dessert.

I made this cassoulet for Christmas a few years ago, it's amazing.
