i've just made my normal banana cake recipe (butter, sugar, egg, flour, bananas) and have realized my loaf tin is temporarily unavailable!

can i put the mixture in muffin cases and bake as small cakes? i normally put the cake in for an hour at 180 c, how long would i do small cakes for?

quick answers appreciated, the oven is on, the mixture is ready and dd is on my case!

why not? worth a shot

is it fairy cake sized? then 15 mins
if muffin sized 20 mins

Can't see why not - just bake for a shorter time. Do you have any recipe books that have cooking times for small cakes?

Intuitively I would have thought 30 minutes?

serendippity · 24/04/2008 10:50

I would have thought that you can bake most cakes in little cases. I normaly do small ones for about 10- 18 mins and check after 10. My oven likes to incnerate things tho

You can tell when they're done by poking them with a toothpick - if it comes out dry, they're done.

big muffins twig!

will try for about 25 mins, splitting the difference between twiglett and biwi's suggestions

Yes, a toothpick. Is that not the right word? Little wooden skewer type thing.

No, I don't use them for teeth! But it's just the word for them - at least in Canada. Not here?

Shouldn't you be off somewhere pretending not to know your husband?

Oh, you're pretending to not know him now?

It's a bit kinky, doing the 'pick up your husband' thing on MN. What name is he posting under?
