3 kids age 9 (one dairy and soya free) and 3 adults. What can we have for dinner? Roast chicken and wedges? Free From noodles and chicken?

OP posts:
Forgottenmyphone · 16/10/2024 20:08

Why do the noodles have to be free from?
Spaghetti bolognese? Fajitas? Roast dinner? Sausages, chips and beans?

Reugny · 16/10/2024 20:08

Raw meat and vegetables you prepare yourself don't tend to have either of them in.

It's prepared/processed food and sauces that tend to contain them.

So basically you need to cook from scratch.

PolaroidPrincess · 16/10/2024 20:09

Cottage Pie and veg?

Sausages may have soya in but the OP can read the ingredients.

Eggs don't have either of them in. Neither do potatoes (which the OP can use to make chips), rice and pasta.

Lasagne
Chilli
Shepherds pie
Pie and chips
Baked potatoes
Fajitas
Enchiladas
Toad in the hole
Spaghetti Bolognese
Curry
Pasta and sauce

fourelementary · 16/10/2024 20:15

Chicken super noodles or fresh egg noodles don’t have dairy or soya.

wraps don’t tend to either so chicken mayo (most Mayo doesn't have mayo) and salad wraps with wedges are a staple meal that please everyone

sausages and mash with peas also goes down well.

tortilla crisps with d Cheese for nachos with wedges and chicken strips.

Some of the food you have listed has milk, cheese or cream in it which someone who can't eat dairy can't have. (The alternatives taste crap.)

I haven't bothered to work out if they have soya in them.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 16/10/2024 20:17

Paella?
Roast lamb and all the trimming?
Beef stew?
Tagine with couscous
Curry and side dishes
So many possibilities

Pudding is harder but you can make crumble with oil (use 75% of the butter amount) Squirty vegan cream is disgusting but nice occasionally. Or make custard with the oat milk.

Just get in some oat milk for teas and coffee. Homebrand bourbons, oaties and gingernuts tend to be dairy and soy free.

If you mean toad in the hole, you can substitute a milk alternative.

Which others have dairy?

Funnily enough I actually asked milk drinkers.

The OP is cooking for a someone who can have dairy but not soya so they would notice unlike the others.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 16/10/2024 20:34

Alternatives do tend to taste crap. Lots of people will have a couple of alternatives that they like in a couple of dishes but you run a reasonably high risk of giving someone something they loath.

I'm sure the OP can decide for herself, though I'm sure she'll take your survey into account.

@fourelementary , thank you, I had forgotten chicken super noodles.

ShanghaiDiva · 16/10/2024 20:40

My ds is dairy free and I use oat milk to make anything requiring milk- works well imo and flora vegan block instead of butter. Anything toy make from scratch eg roast dinner, chilli, bolognese, meat and veg is easy to make dairy free. I use oar milk for Yorkshire puddings and they have been successful.

Lidl do a long loaf cake, hazelnut flavour. Easy tasty and cheap. Plus their spiced chistmas biscuits.
Also Soreen.

Pretty much all of the list contains dairy but can easily be made with substitutes

This is like a parallel universe. I make all those dishes and don't put dairy in them as I don't eat dairy.

What dairy do you put in chilli for example?

MumChp · 16/10/2024 21:07

Chicken, rice and vegetables
Jacked potatoes
Pizza - vegan style
Soup

Their mince pies are DF, just not sure about SF. I'm only DF though so am roughly getting through a box a week.
