DS 4 1/2 months devours every pureed thing that touches his lips (always after usual milk feed) but has stopped sleeping and i'm at my wits end. He was going 10.30 to 4-5am but now wakes every 1/2 to 2 hours from about 2am. He doesn't seem too distressed (unless ignored) just very active and awake, but will only go back to sleep with a feed and cuddle. He's mostly in our bed--is this keeping him up?is it the food? please help i'm reaching sleep deprivation explosion point.

jessb, could he have a bit of a sore tummy from the solids, particularly if he is eating alot. I found this with my DS2 when we introduced solids even although it was just a small amount it did distrupt him and he acted as if he had a sore tummy, I was just about to stop the solids when he really began to enjoy them and didn't appear to be uncomfortable anymore. I found that each time we introduced a new meal it had the same effect for a few days and then just recently we introduced cows milk in cooking and yoghurts etc and he was uncomfortable again for a few days until he got used to it. Hope you get some more sleep soon!

This happened to us too, although strangely, not every single night. It wasn't related to intro a new food, just solids in general. He wasn't impressed by them either, unlike your babe. He's 7 months now and has settled down, for the most part.

Jessb, solids have fewer calories than milk so your baby could be waking because he is hungry. Maybe fitting in an extra breast/formula feed would help him back to his previous routine?

jessb - my dd was a bit of a nightmare when she started solids so basically I backtracked. That is, I went back to baby rice only and then reintroduced 1 veg at a time etc.

I finally realised that she had a problem with fruit - all fruit, presumably because it's quite acidic. Apparantly this is common with breast fed babies, although she is now on a bottle and still gets uncomfortable with fruit. Could that be it?

Anyway after a few days she settled down. I'm just taking things more slowly now.

I agree. I suspect he's hungry and needs more milk during the day. Cut back on the solids if necessary until he's older. Also, being in your bed could be keeping him awake IMO. I put ds in a cot when I felt we were keeping each other awake and he didn't seem to even notice. Might well be worth a try.

thanks for your help..phone line down over xmas so only just read your advice. DS is still waking but only every 2-3 hours since we have tried new tack of cuddling back to sleep and not breastfeeding or taking him back into our bedhe is consquently taking more milk in the day but i think i will try cutting right back on solids and stopping fruit for a bitthanks.
