Air fryer queries

Sorry if this has been done to death but I havent really been interested in airfryers because they're quite ugly and we dont have room for it (I dont want some great hulking thing) on the worktops

However, Im interested in what I read about them in terms of doing things like roast veg, tofu etc, things that I dont want to put the oven on for or might be better in an airfryer. I dont like frying things so havent experimented much with tofu and I would like to.
Also because I can only eat very small portions of things, Ive got things lingering in the freezer because I dont want to put the oven on for 1 or 2 fish fingers etc. Plus OH does a lot of beige food and turns the big oven on (will never use the top oven) and its a lot of electricity.

But, but, on some of the adverts, I see the inevitable chips (which OH would eat, I dont) and someone pouring a small amount of oil on them. But we would never put oil on frozen chips, they just go in the oven as is, same with anything breaded, including fish fingers. So how is it 'healthier' that I can reading about?

I would be interested for example in things like dried tomatoes, crisped apple or fruits, roasted veg like cauliflower, aubergine, beans etc. And I do add quite a bit of oil to those when I roast them.

Im wondering about reconfiguring the kitchen, to put a dresser in somewhere, which means other things can be moved off the worktops to make room for the thing.

This is the grill plate but again you need the base tray in first.

I haven’t used these but some other options.

I honestly think I would stick to Ninja, they just tend to get it right.

If you’re looking to save money, they have an eBay certified refurb store. Everything is pretty much new just might have box damage etc.

That first one is very interesting, it claims it slow cooks but one of the reviewers says it doesnt.

So I could get rid of the slow cooker and also the toaster if they toast bread and bagels and things.

I'm a total convert but admit it took a while of experimenting to find my groove with it.

We now use it for most things to be honest. Bar cakes and pizza. Though good for heating pizza slices up.

Ninja dual drawer. Mine has the meat gauge and that was an amazing surprise - best roast chicken we've ever done, also best beef joint.

I use it for kids things like fish fingers as it is much quicker but mostly for roast veg. I did some sweet potato chips for me this evening (cut from potato.) perhaps not as crispy as oven ones but yum.

Salmon or chicken thighs. Started covering the salmon in miso and lemon. You get a lovely crispy skin. Salmon steaks are fab in it actually. Chicken cooks upside down for most of it and then turn for last part.

We use the paper inners. I just pile the veg up and give it a regular shake/ stir.

I've done tofu with no oil before

Accidentally discovered you can make a good omelette in the baking paper trays!

Only thing I've struggled with is mushrooms!

Got mine from qvc about a year ago; a really good deal and the only time I've bought from qvc!

lalaloopyhead · 11/10/2024 21:56

Mine it the Ninja Foodie Max (not pro) and it's came with everything you need, so actual machine bit that has a flat tray linsert which you use for all functions and then a air fry basket insert and a grill insert ( it also has a temp probe) . You can buy additional bits like. half basket but we've not needed anything else.
I checked earlier and paid £139 from Amazon a couple of months ago when it was price matched to a Ninja offer, they currently look full price so I'd definitely hold out for an offer if I were you.

I have one with trays, like this but mine is digital. Think mine might be swan brand but it looks identical

It's great for a few chips, part baked bread, halloumi, roasted veg, fish fingers etc
I don't add oil to anything unless I've done say chicken in a marinade and there's a bit of oil in the marinade or a tiny bit on roasted veg

Ok I fell victim to the youtube demos and have ordered this!!!!

Its far far bigger than a standard airfryer and I know I will moan and complain about the worktop space needed BUT, I got it on outlet QVC where it has a toast option, not offered on the other versions, not sure how well it will toast. And of course if it does I can get rid of the toaster and get rid of the slow cooker too

Cheapest Ive seen

Mine is really basic and I've had it for years, long before Ninjas came on the scene. I bought it because I live by myself and my oven is shite. I use it instead of an oven. But due to aforesaid oven being shite I also have an actifry and a slow cooker. I couldn't do without any of them!

notanothernamechange24 · 12/10/2024 01:25

I would get the dual draw one. You can put different things in each side and program it to all finish at the same time. So would work well for your DH. The ninja one I have also has a meat thermometer that you can program to cook roasts perfectly. All parts can go straight in the dishwasher. It's fab

Just think of them as a really small oven. They can cook anything a normal oven can cook, just quicker and more efficiently. If mine broke I'd replace it straight away

This

There is no mystery to them.

AutumnLeaves24 · 12/10/2024 21:12

I put off getting one for a very long time, partly due to the same reasons as you. I have a small kitchen with not much worktop space. I don't have any storage space & I cba putting it away all the time anyway. I don't eat chips or other 'fried' food really.

but one day I went into my neighbours and they had one (Costco- 'sur la table' 2 drawer. £90 + bag) and I thought it was quite cute. Nice shape & smaller footprint than any other 2 drawer I'd seen)

So I went & got one. I haven't looked back!!

it's quick, easy, & doesn't feel 'a waste' putting it on for a packet of veggie 'sausages' or roasting some veg.

i think I've had the oven on twice since I bought it. Both times were for cooking pizzas with friends. If it's just for me I cut it into slices and do it in the air fryer,

its great for roast veg and again quick & doesn't feel as 'wasteful as putting the oven
on, especially for 1/2 people.
