My DD ishaving aprty and a few of the mothers/fathers will be staying.

What sort of food could I prepare for snacks.

Ideally things I could prepare the day before as will be busy with childrens food on the day.

Is it a lunchtime or 3-5pm kind of party?

collision · 22/04/2008 19:23

houmas, tzaziki etc with breadsticks and sticks of cucumber, carrot and pepper

Sausage rolls, mini sausages and samosas

crisps are easy

I dont think you should go to too much trouble as it wont be expected. We ended up eating most of the kiddy food last week at a childrens party.

White wine is nice though!

Spanish ommelette (sp?) cut into chunks.
Quiche cut into squares.
Olives.

How about just a few French sticks, good cheese, grapes, posh crisps and olives? No work, good to pick at, they will appreciate your "effort" and you will have plenty of time to concentrate on the children instead!

And if the adults are anything like the ones I know, they will hover over the fairy cakes and eat them before the children do!

As the party's in the afternoon& presumably the adults will have had lunch & not yet dinner what about scones, cream & jam?

spudmasher · 22/04/2008 20:52

My current fav party nibble is a block of cream cheese on a plate with a load of sweet chilli sauce poured over it and chopped coriander on top. Serve with oatcakes, crackers etc to spread it on. Mmm.

janeite · 22/04/2008 20:58

Scones are a fab idea! Ignore everybody else - do that!!!!

sunflowervalley · 22/04/2008 21:15

Scones sound a good idea and maybe another cake of some sort.

I made a couple of cakes and everyone was delighted, they'll eat most of the kids stuff anyway - who can resist kids party food

well I know I can't

yellowmama · 22/04/2008 22:06

Cucumber sandwiches!

harpomarx · 22/04/2008 22:09

spicy chicken drumsticks or wings always go down well with the marx family and friends - marinade them the night before, bung them in the oven and serve hot or cold.

i usually lay on a few beers as well, parties can go on a while though!

harpomarx · 22/04/2008 22:12

don't think you could prep cucumber sandwiches the day before yellowmama....

WaynettaSlob · 22/04/2008 22:17

Peppers, cucumber, carrot batons and dips
Chips....and dip
olives
wine / beer
They will only be there for 2 hours. don't go overboard.....

fishie · 22/04/2008 22:19

meatballs
mini sausages
pizza

stuff which both lots can eat.

sunflowervalley · 22/04/2008 22:46

Thanks for the suggestions.

Want to make a good impression, first party with school mums coming round

OP posts:
collision · 23/04/2008 18:11

OK, I have had a rethink and think you should do afternoon tea for the mums!

I realise this has been touched on but forget the wine and make

triangles of cucumber sandwiches and ham, cream cheese etc

little scones with cream and jam

a stunning looking carrot cake or choc cake

shortbread fingers

tons of tea

This is what I would do.

sunflowervalley · 24/04/2008 22:39

Thanks everyone, will go with the afternoon tea idea.

Could buy some nice scones as mine never seem to turn out right.

Could make some carrot and sultana muffins.

Better go and buy a teapot as don't own one
