🤦‍♀️ I'm so tired...

It's a Mary Berry tray bake.
275 flour
Plus 2 heaped tsp baking powder
Plus four eggs

Might it be ok do you think?

I can't face starting again like in the bake off.....

We've all had our baking whoospie moments, don't worry 😁 I made my fool proof chocolate cake that I have bragged many times you can't go wrong with. Forgot to add the sugar one time. Turns out you CAN go wrong sometimes.

I also had a children's cupcake box mix back in my early 20's. I managed to get the flour packet mixed up with the icing sugar mixed and was very confused as to why I had baked 12 crystallised lumps of sugar.

😂😂😂

I think it will be fine. You put in baking powder.

I hear you. My baked pumpkin custard without eggs was not a hit. Couldn't figure out for the longest time why it wasn't setting... until I found the bowl of eggs on the worktop.

Ha ha! I can still see the butter, eggs and sugar sizzling on the pan and thinking.... Ohhhhh!!!! 💡 Bought some for Santa that year 😆

I could start again! I'm too embarrassed to share a photo!

Don't be embarrassed, you're amongst friends. Come on, I won't laugh..............

Bjorkdidit · 21/09/2024 11:05

It should be fine. SR flour is just plain flour and baking powder and the ratio is about right. I usually do this to avoid having 2 bags of flour on the go as I don't bake very often, I think it's 1 level tsp per 100 g so you've probably used enough.

Just checking you actually put in some sugar and butter?

But there's a lot said about having to be precise about baking, which isn't true. There's endless different recipes on the internet and they all produce cake.

SOME extent, not DOME extent! A cake as big as the O2... 😂

😂😂Wishful thinking!

Yeah, this. I think SR plus 2 extra tsps is excessive anyway.

I know at least two people who've accidentally used salt instead of sugar when baking.

Now that's a mistake there really is no recovery from. Sadly it all just has to go in the bin.

Chewbecca · 21/09/2024 11:17

I would agree SR flour + 2tsp baking powder would be too much baking powder. You've hopefully also got lots of air in your eggs? I reckon it will be fine.

Reminds me of when my dad made dumplings with plain flower.

If you threw them at someone, they'd have needed facial reconstruction.

God, I broke a tooth on a dumpling once. The one and only time I thought I'd give frozen ones a go. And yes, I did cook it, it wasn't because it was still frozen 😂
Never again. I've always homemade dumplings, as did my mother, and I can honestly say even if I'd not broken a tooth they were just nowhere near as good as the homemade ones!

BellaBlythe · 21/09/2024 11:44

I often made those. Never had a complaint.
The dumplings with only flour, I forgot the suet were a bit dense.
Remember Rumpole of the Bailey: Never plead guilty. let them find out.

wildfellhall · 21/09/2024 23:46

I started again and made another - much better!

Can we see the failed attempt. We're all friends here ... Grin

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/09/2024 00:17

This is why custard was invented !

wildfellhall · 22/09/2024 10:21

It isn't inedible the bad cake, but the consistency isn't perfect.

I bake so rarely but I have little tolerance for a failed cake

How’s it looking? My bet is it’ll be dense but fine.
i used bulgur wheat instead of Demerara sugar once, now that was a more troublesome mistake to disguise. Zero sugar cakes just aren’t cakes…

I used fine ground bulgur wheat instead of cornmeal trying to make cornbread once, it was horrible.

The cake should be fine with all those eggs, unless it's for a very special occasion there's no way I would start over.
