Meal for PIL

Don't see PIL very often. They are coming over for dinner soon. We usually do a roast with meringue and trifle for dessert. Looking to do something different. PIL like big portions, MIL is coeliac so a gluten free menu. There's nothing they don't like thankfully.

Beef bourguignon or fish pie, with plum crumble for pudding

Well crumble is out if MIL is coeliac!

Biryani is delicous and can easily be made generous in size.

Crumble is a good call, can be made with gluten free flour since the structure and integrity isn't important in the crumble topping, and it feels like it's getting to the right time of year too!!! A cheesecake (that doesn't use flour) with a GF biscuit base is an easy option as well.

I'm gluten intolerant

I'd do either a beef massaman curry with coconut rice and creme brûlée

Or slow roasted lamb shanks in a red wine jus with either potato dauphinoise or mash and seasonal veggies with Nigella's chocolate olive oil cake

If she is fully Coeliac, is your house set up to be completely gluten free?

What about some kind of fancy fish dish? Wrapped in parma ham on a bed of lentils or something?

If you normally do a roast, I assume they'll want something substantial and with a bit of effort. A good curry or casserole could work?

A crumble is definitely not out for a coeliac. It's one of the few things I have managed to make without any issues with Gluten free flour.

Also your whole house doesn't need to be gluten free. You just need to take special care about cleaning your work surfaces and avoiding cross contamination.

You could do a crumble with quite a high ratio of oats to flour (both specifically gluten free ones, obv.)

Boeuf bourguignon was my first thought too. Or Coq au Vin.

We cook for a friend who is gluten free and she loves it when I make something 'cakey' as she has to go without cake so often. Nigella's Clementine cake is a favourite - just make sure your baking powder is GF. I serve it with some sort of fruit eg caramelised oranges/poached pears/apricots

I find a cake that doesn't rely totally on flour (eg a mix of flour witb almonds) works better than only flour eg this cake

But can't beat a good crumble and doesn't suffer so much from being made with GF flour.
