Protein for 9 year old boy.
He doesn’t eat the following:

Eggs (only pancakes and no eggy bread)
Baked beans or any beans
Cheese (not even melted or hidden

He loves meat (mostly breaded) yoghurt and milk. Eats fruit and veg.
Is that enough? x

Put extra eggs in Yorkshire Puddings.

Lovelyview · 18/09/2024 17:29

If he eats meat that's plenty. My son's the opposite. He won't eat meat and the only protein he gets is milk and cheese. He's 15 and is nearly 6 ft tall so I wouldn't worry.

ApolloandDaphne · 18/09/2024 17:48

My DD2 didn't eat eggs, beans or cheese as a child and she didn't drink milk either. She liked yogurt and ate meat so she got plenty protein. She seems to have grown into a tall healthy adult who eats all of those things now (except baked beans!).

AtleastitsnotMonday · 18/09/2024 22:13

Nuts or nut butters?
If he eats meat every day he probably gets enough. Can you give an example of a typical day's food?

Sepoctnov · 18/09/2024 22:17

Put extra egg yolks and greek yoghurt in the pancake batter.

Agree with PP if he happily eats meat this will give him enough protein. If he likes the breaded meat, try to go for the quality stuff not reformed processed meat, obviously if budget allows.

NonBinaryBlanket · 18/09/2024 22:24

No one needs eggs or cheese. There are plenty of sources of protein such as lentils and peanut butter.

ProvincialLady2024 · 18/09/2024 22:28

I thinks that ok? How old is he?

There are kids that juts eat ham sandwiches and quavers every day.

As long as long as all food groups are covered you're doing great.

You can make lots of pancakes and breads with eg chickpea flour? Many recipes online. You can also use it to make batter for fish or meat. And of course things like onion pakoras.

I'm 57 and still don't eat eggs or beans

distractmeagain · 18/09/2024 22:34

i'd say you dont need to worry about the eggs, beans or cheese... sounds like his diet is varied enough.

my DD does not eat potato... in any shape or form.. no chips, no crisps, no baked potato, no roastie... a potato has never passed her lips and i tried hiding them in everything..

shes 22 and still won't eat the blooming things

TheHorneSection · 18/09/2024 22:35

Are you worried about something?

7yo DS doesn’t eat eggs or cheese or much yoghurt, and only has oat milk. I can’t say it has occurred to me to be worried about anything diet wise!

mikado1 · 18/09/2024 22:35

They only need a small amount so sounds like he's fine. Mine is only recently eating some meat, having been a fab eater as a baby and toddler - the usual. He kept up milk, some nuts, the odd egg (I was worried he was having too many eggs as a baby/toddler {eyeroll}) and plenty of cheese and regular-ish decent yoghurt. Now he's reaching for a little bit of chicken, steak, fish which of course has been served up all those years. I was much worse myself and eat so well now, the healthier, the better.

They'll be fine. Offer the good stuff and let time sort it.

PickAChew · 18/09/2024 22:38

It's fine. None of us eat everything.

Sugarcube84 · 18/09/2024 22:42

I’ve never eaten them rather, don’t like the texture of beans, hate the thought of an egg by itself fine in cakes etc though and cheese makes me feel madras and gives me terrible stomach cramps.

its not been a problem for me

KnittedCardi · 18/09/2024 22:48

I have never really liked eggs or beans either. Texture I think. I will eat a fried egg, but no other egg, makes me feel sick. Beans are just bleuch and gas inducing.

I did and do have milk, cheese, yogurt, meat and fish.

TossedSaladandSE · 18/09/2024 23:22

My DS refused to eat cheese

He then explained once he knew how to express himself better that it made him feel ill

Turned out he was lactose intolerant

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 19/09/2024 07:03

I've never eaten eggs or beans.

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 19/09/2024 09:50

So he has a fairly old fashioned diet - meat, veg, fruit. Maybe a bit of dairy? I think that's fine. Eggs, beans, yogburt are usually positioned as alternative protein sources for people who eat little or no meat for whatever reason (cost, vegetarians etc).

hholiday · 19/09/2024 18:50

My son won’t eat cheese but he is ok with tiny bits of grated melted cheese - eg in cheese scones.

hholiday · 19/09/2024 18:51

Ps - your ds’s diet sounds amazing compared to mine! Think he’s doing just fine xxx
