Cooking for a small army...

Not quite but on Friday I've got to do lunch for 6 adults, 3 preschoolers and 3 one year olds. I'd really like it to be something everyone can eat and ideally something I can either do in advance the night before or throw together fairly easily just before lunch. No vegetarians or allergies as far as I'm aware. Am totally stuck for inspiration, please inspire me.

As before....some nice quiches, cold meats, cheese etc, add baked spuds and/or nice warm bread, salad and a couple of easy puds (fruit salad, ice cream, bought cheesecake)?

ScienceTeacher · 20/04/2008 20:24

The last time I did that kind of lunch, I think I made chicken pie.

AMumInScotland · 20/04/2008 20:29

Another vote for the deli counter here - I had to do 6 adults, one teen, two small kids recently and that seemed the easiest way to keep everyone happy. I even got DH to do the shopping

Psychomum5 · 20/04/2008 20:33

oooh.....I cote for 'picky bits'

cooked meats/cured meats, salads, hummous and other dips, veg crudities, toasted and sliced pitta breads, fresh french stick or similar, olives, mini sausages and mini pizza maybe for the kiddies, ermmmmmm......

will think of more, or others will

I did this today for 6 adults, 8 small kids

bought 18 rolls
4 packets sausages

3 big bunches of grapes in different colours

Wine and OJ

rolls in sausage, grapes.Eaten on the hoof.

Everyone loved it

lilolilmanchester · 20/04/2008 21:47

baked potatoes with a selection of toppings? (chilli/grated cheese/baked beans/tuna mayo etc etc)

snickersnack · 20/04/2008 21:53

Am feeling much more inspired by this - love the idea of sausages, I think that would be very popular. Might have to do something separate for the babies (though mine would happily monster his way through a sausage given a chance) but that's not a problem. Or jacket potatoes. Was feeling a bit of a need to unleash my inner domestic goddess and make some kind of pie but I think that might be more hassle than I need.

Pavlovthecat · 22/04/2008 23:33

waswondering - I was going to say that!

well perhaps not thought of the ice cream but.

jasper · 22/04/2008 23:35

lasagne..with garlic bread, salad and wine....

snickersnack · 23/04/2008 22:18

It's on Friday, jasper - am going for the line of least resistance and doing the deli thing (thanks to Mr Ocado). But have been salivating at the idea of lasagne and garlic bread ever since reading this so that's what we're having with the in-laws on Sunday.
