How do I turn leftover roast beef into a Chinese type dinner??

Could I make a teriyaki style sauce - then slice and stirfry the beef and some veggies and add teriyaki at the end??

Or will it be insanely tough???

Any other ideas how to transform the last leftovers of the roast??

Well teriyaki is Japanese.

Hmm, tbh I'd fry it in some sauce very quickly and eat it as a baguette, then if it's a little tough it's kinda hidden by the bread.

Do you have things like cooking wine, seasame oil etc at home? Chinese 5-spice?

Should work - if the meat is well done you might want to marinade it first to add flavour and moisture. Then really short cooking to heat but not toughen or dry out.

Try this, if you've got the ingredients www.rivercottage.net/recipes/chinese-style-spicy-crispy-beef

Should have used 'Asian'!!!

Yes I have a good herbs and spices store and been adding recently to the relevant ingredients inc sesame oil, five spice, Thai spice mix, fish sauce, mirin...just not much experience with Asian cooking yet Smile

I've done this before with leftover roast pork and it's lovely - slice the beef really thinly (against the grain to make it more tender) and marinate in the sauce you're going to use beforehand.

Thinly slice peppers, onions and any other veg you've got and saute them, chuck in the beef and add rice or noodles as per your preference. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped spring onion if you have it. Enjoy!

Great - will make a marinade now!!

If it is Asian you are looking for, Jamie Oliver's Indonesian beef rendang from Save with Jamie is an absolute favourite in our house, we have roast beef specifically so we can have the rendang the next day. It might be more faff than you are looking for though!

Yes, this! Marinate the sliced meat in a soy-based marinade (I tend to use a mix of soy and mirin or Chinese rice vinegar if that's all I've got).
Add only to heat through or it will be tough.

That beef rendang looks amazing, but I love the idea of 450g of beef leftovers! Even if I planned for it like @MagicianMoth I'd have to hide it to stop it being demolished before I used it.

I had this one Christmas! Sliced the beef thinly and turned it into beef and tomato, a Chinese dish with slices of beef, fried scrambled egg, peas, spring onions all cooked in a tangy sauce made with chopped tomatoes. Lovely on white rice.
