Low Salt Meals

I've been directed to cut right down on salt. I've found that all the stuff I like has lots of salt in it, even though I don't add salt. Bacon, soy sauce, cheese, most chinese or thai sauces, ham, you know the drill.

But what's worse is trying to eat lunch at work. I am not keen on bringing in a packed lunch and pretty much all pre-prepared sandwiches have a ton of salt in.

Can anyone who has successfully cut down on salt offer useful advice / hope?

If it is to help reduce your blood pressure you might find cutting out caffeine works better for you.

DH found that his blood pressure dropped significantly by cutting out caffeine.

Cook from scratch and don't use processed ingredients?

Thank you for the suggestion. I do that already - but lots of nice ingredients have salt. It also doesn't help with the eating lunch.

I have high cholesterol and high-ish blood pressure. I'm on statins and I'm eating heart friendly food which has brought it down a little.

As to giving up coffee, nooooo, please don't make me! 😱

I also have to control salt (different reason though) and find lunches difficult even at home.
For me it's either have breakfast food at lunch (porridge, muesli fruit and yoghurt) or salads/soups that I make. I have been shocked at how much salt is in ready made sandwiches, and even bread contains more than is ideal if I want to eat it regularly.

Honestly, it makes a huge difference. Decaffeinated coffee tastes just as good as the stuff with caffeine in these days.

Can I suggest that you buy a box of Taylor's decaffeinated coffee bags (blue box) and give it a go.

I love breakfast food - this a great option. I'll have to go easy on portion size because I love muesli.
