from the May issue of Sainsburys magazine, has anyone made this recipe

I am thinking of making it for a wedding and wondered if the quantities were okay and how the cakes sit on top of each other without sinking into the cake below.

I have not got this edition of the magazine. Presumably, it is a stacked wedding cake? This means that the tiers are directly on top of one another without being on separate tiers of a cake stand.
It is quite easy to stack cakes. You need to put each cake on a thin cake board the same size as the cake (not the bottom tier though - this can go on a normal cake board if you like). Ice the cake and cover the edge of the board. Put some dowelling into the cake below to support the board, and hey presto! a stacked cake! Leave the cakes to dry and set a little before you handle them or you will dent the icing. I would wait a day or two before stacking them. Don't transport them stacked! It could be a nightmare.
Hope I haven't completely insulted you by getting the wrong end of the stick

You could buy a cake decorating magazine to show you how to do it. Or if you send me your address i can photocopy some instructions for you or email them to you with photos to help. A good magazine is cake craft and is available in WHS.
