I got some John Lewis vouchers from work as a thank you, I have coveted one for years and convinced myself I could get rid of all my other gadgets.

I just can’t get on with it, what am I doing wrong? I’ve made bread, and it all seeped out underneath and covered the base, it’s also overheated and stopped working.

made pesto in the small bowl, it splattered the other bowls and now I have to wash them all up.

so many small parts all need washing up.

what am I doing wrong? Why can’t I love it!?

thank you

i sold mine
huge contraption and half the functionality would only ever be used very rarely
no regrets

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 29/07/2024 10:46

Did you replace it with anything?

I can see me using it regularly, if I could just get on with it.

I didn't know you could make bread in one.

I only really used one bowl of mine, for grating and pureeing veg, making hummus, etc.

I had a braun food processor which i liked much better (bought from Germany or france since not available in UK). Much better design, lighter, simpler.

I have a seperate machine for bread and cakes (electrolux assistant, v expensive, v old)

yes you can do kneading with the kneading blade (plastic one) so pastry and bread in them.

we had a braun when I was growing up, it was great! Had a green dial on the top, lasted for years.

Love mine!
DC use the smallest bowl when chopping small bits of food
I use middle sized bowl to grate a block of cheddar, otherwise biggest bowl for everything
Coleslaw is really fast.
I make bread dough but agree that it can seep out when proving if you don't keep an eye on it.
I often make cakes.
But, and this would be a deal breaker for me, I always wash in the dishwasher, never by hand as you're supposed to.

On the dough issue I think this will solve your problem:

I mostly use mine for big jobs like grating a whole block of cheese and portioning it up to freeze, when I have a lot of veg to slice or grate eg. making carrot cake, making potato pancakes or courgette fritters, making potato gratin. Cutting in butter for scones, pastry or crumble topping, making hummus or other dips. Turning stale heels of bread into breadcrumbs.

I don't tend to use the little bowls as they just get the lid dirty which usually gets the big bowl a bit dirty as well. Basically I just use the main bowl, lid, and a single attachment so never more than 3 things to go in the dishwasher (I handwash the metal blades to keep sharp but dishwasher for everything else).

The only correct way of making dough with the Magimix 4200 XL

And also really quick pastry and it stays lovely and cold

Thank you all!
that video is fantastic! His explanation is exactly what happened, it all crept up the tube and jammed the spindle until it started smoking. I did slowly add the water, as I knew the absorption of recipe would be different as it’s a machine, but clearly not slow enough!!
I was toying with just getting a refund on it, but it sounds like I just need to persevere, the fact I don’t have a dishwasher may be part of my annoyance at everything getting covered.

the plastic on mine started to crack and chip so ended up at the tip. The motor went on my MILs.

That’s terrible, was it old?

Magimix motors are guaranteed for 30 years and you should be able to get replacement parts if the bowl cracks. I used to have a cheaper brand and couldn’t replace the bowl when I dropped it and it smashed so replaced with a magimix for that reason.

lapochette · 01/08/2024 08:01

I've had my Magimix for 20 years and have just had to replace the plastic lid. Got a package of new lid, bowls and some blades for approx £50 from Magimix spares and it's like new again. I use it very similarly to Xiaoxiong and also slicing potatoes for gratin is a doddle.

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 06/08/2024 19:49

I have to admit I was drawn to the magimix because they tend to keep parts.
so boring update. Took the smoking one back to John Lewis, and clocked they had a sage one reduced from over £400 to £230 (less than the magimix). It’s mini bowl has a lip to stop the contents going into the bigger bowl and it’s a sealed unit so liquids don’t leak out.
its the old model sage one, hence the bargain.
So far. I’m impressed
