Smoking at home.

Has anyone any experience with home food smoking pans/ gadgetry?
My daughter's boyfriend fancies cooking a family dinner and experimenting with smoking food. He has half an eye on an outdoor one from B&Q but I have seen perhaps more versatile smoker pans which can also be used indoors. Any tips or recommendations appreciated, thanks.

I tried a recipe many years ago to smoke chicken breasts. It involved lining a wok with with foil, adding things like rice & aromatics, placing meat on the trivet & using the lid.

It worked, BUT the place stank for a week - never again.

I use a bottle of Liquid Smoke now.

I don't like liquid smoke.

I have a smoker, and also use a kettle bbq to smoke. Usually brisket but it is a commitment.

Thanks all, those pans were something I was considering but we do have a garden.

We have a smoker. A proper big outdoor one. Whatever you get, don’t try to do it indoors. If you are doing it right, it’s proper smoky. Get an outdoor one. I’m sure one from B&Q is fine, though there may be slightly more expensive but better ones. And a good meat thermometer.
