Multi-cooker ?

I'll be moving to a place with a very small kitchen, & need to re-think my appliances. I'll have a hob & microwave.

I will need to replace : -
Airfryer - use every day
Pressure cooker - weekly
Slow Cooker - weekly

Ideally one item that replaces all 3, but I doubt that's possible.

Also, I'm a bit concerned about "Jack of all trades, Master of none".

Any thoughts, please ?
Recommendations for specific items would be very welcome.

Amazon reviews on things I've looked at are very mixed.

Thanks.

I have an Instant Pot and it's really good. You can use it as a pressure cooker and a slow cooker. I would say that as a slow cooker, it's not very hot so you need to have it on the highest setting, but then it does the job really well (though to be honest, I normally just use the pressure cooker functions if I want to make a stew). I also use it to make yoghurt.

I don't have an airfryer, so can't comment on that, but would you be able to get a combi microwave that also has an oven function?

Ninja Foodie does all those things in one but it's a big old beast sitting on the counter top.

Ninja 7/9 in 1. Not the cheapest but does everything you need

I love my Instant Pot Duo Crisp. Does everything you mention and can be found cheaply online - perhaps Prime Day have a discount. There are two sizes. No need to get different versions of each thing if you do get one! And also, crucially, budget friendly.

My parents have the Ninja Foodi 15 in 1 thingy. It's a big old beast of a thing but I can't deny it makes great food. From what I've seen it does all the features well, the only thing is the air fryer doesn't have a paddle to turn the contents. It definitely cooks a good joint of meat very quickly.

greenandgreener · 16/07/2024 12:19

NB I believe there are different Duo Crisp models, some with the lid always attached. Go for the silver one without the lid attached - apparently the black one with it attached has some issues.

Ninja foodie, love it.

We've got an Instant Pot Duo Crisp as pp (ours is the 8 litre capacity). It works great for pressure cooker/slow cooker and you can churn out decent sized family meals. Imo though it's not so great as an air fryer - can do one or two portions no problem and great for individual WFH sneaky lunches of guilty pleasure nuggets and fries but wouldn't be able to cook a whole chicken as you can do I think in the rectangle drawers of a Ninja and it definitely can't cook a full 'fried' meal for 3 adults and a teen with hollow legs!

HowardTJMoon · 16/07/2024 14:01

I've also got a 6L Instant Pot Duo Crisp. Truly excellent as a slow cooker and pressure cooker. I couldn't live without it.
Ok, but not great, as an air fryer. You can't fit much in and it's an inconvenient shape. The 8L might be better.

Notthatcatagain · 16/07/2024 14:08

I've got the Ninja 9in1, overall it's pretty good. The airfryer does enough for 2 but wouldn't feed a family easily. The pressure cooker is good, the slow cooker is pretty slow so needs the high setting but the results are good. I did a Sunday roast with just the Ninja and microwave to see if I could really. It was hard work, the chicken was well cooked and the roasties excellent but there was no overall time saved. A pork joint started in the pressure cooker and finished offing the airfryer is to die for, I defy anyone to make better

I have a Ninja foodie 14 in 1 and love It. It has all those functions but it is heavy, you may need to take that into account if storing in a low cupboard. I use ours almost every day so tend to leave it on the counter or stove top. The slow cook setting is maybe a little lower in temperature than my old slow cooker. I tend to use hi rather than low, especially at the start of cooking, but it works good. Happy enough to get rid of the old slow cooker.

I have an Instant Pot (slow cooker and pressure cooker), which I bought a couple of years ago because I figured that we didn't really eat fried food. I chose it for the stainless steel "pot".

I recommend the cookery book "Modern Pressure Cooking" by Catherine Phipps in any event.

I've since also bought a Ninja Speedi. It bakes/grills/airfries and sort of steam cooks (but not a steam oven). It is fab for reheating pizza/doing cheese on toast in the time it would take my regular oven to heat up. The steam airfry function is great for breaded chicken etc.

Amazon have a Prime sale on today/tomorrow, but I've also bought Ninja stuff at big discounts from their website or their "ex display" store on eBay (can recommend their non-stick bakeware and frying pans)!

TheSandgroper · 17/07/2024 14:29

Why does the slow cooker need to be in the kitchen? Just park it in a spare corner with an extension lead if need be.

I assume you have an electric pressure cooker (see above point) because the old fashioned type goes on your hob or am I missing something?

willproblem · 17/07/2024 17:51

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions, very helpful.

A combi microwave hadn't occurred to me, but looks promising.

I'll check them all out after I've measured the available space. Height is a consideration as whatever I get might have to operate under wall cupboards.

@TheSandgroper I want all my kitchen equipment in the kitchen !

It's a small place, spare corners don't exist.

My current P.C. is not electric. I'm exploring ways of condensing 3 items into 1 or 2 - or the new possibility of 4 items into 2.
