Cooking with Marmite?

Now, I LOVE Marmite, and everyone knows that. I live in Spain, where it's not readily available, so whenever I have visitors they always bring a pot. I was cleaning out my cupboards yesterday, and found I now have 2 big pots, 3 medium and 1 of those tiny ones. Even I cannot get through it all, especially as I have failed miserably in my attempts to convert the heathens (AKA DH) to this delicacy.

So, can I use it for cooking?

I often add it to gravy

You can add a teaspoon to casserole type dishes. It will add a bit of salty flavour, but shouldn't be obvious to marmite haters. I'm vegetarian and have added it to lentil stew etc. Hate it on toast though...

Anything related to gravy or beef stock!

Also adds a nice tang to a spag bol too. Just a teaspoonful is all you need. (warm the spoon up first!) and the marmite will just slip off the spoon into the pan.

Also a nice replacement if you have ran out of Worcester sauce.

DP used to enjoy the Marmite roast potatoes at a place he used to stay in Wales. I never went, so I can't claim any first-hand experience, but I think the spuds are tossed in Marmite before they go in the hot fat.

Can't have been too much of it though, he hates Marmite.

Just Marmite and toss the spuds in?

Now there's a fab idea!. Thanks Nobig

Sounds delicious [yum emo]

Not the healthiest, but my mum used to spread marmite on puff pastry and wrap it round cheese- mmmmmmmmmmmmmm,

Mmmmm, that sounds nice Rach. For a nibbly thing with drinks maybe?

I add a spoonful to shepherds pie, and gravy.

Also cheese and marmite sandwiches, or cheese and Marmite on toast.

I used it in cooking instead of soya sauce as DS was allergic to soya.

Mix a little bit in with scrambled egg mixture- gives it a bit more flavour
