What does your child eat before school?

My kids have always gone to breakfast club in primary. DS is about to start secondary school and it just occurred to me that he'll need to eat beforehand 😅 He needs to leave early (7.45am) and neither parent will be around as one will be taking sibling to school and other will be on their way to work.
He can make toast and cereal etc but I have a feeling he'll be rushing and I don't want him to just grab a cereal bar/croissant every day. Any ideas for quick healthy options that'll keep him going?

An omelette mix in silicone bun cases and cooked in the oven the day before ,just reheat in the microwave for 30 seconds and good to go.

If you want to prep before -
Overnight oats
Baked porridge that just needs to be reheated and served with some extra milk or yoghurt
Mini "quiches" (really omelettes baked in muffin tin)
Filled croissant
Yoghurt with fruit and nuts
Pancakes

Mine has a sesame bagel, banana and milk. Sometimes cereal as well these days. I put the bagel in when he's in the shower so it's ready when he comes down.

What do you mean by this. Just egg or do you add anything else to mixture. I have a constant battle trying to get my teen to eat before school as he is never hungry first thing. But he does like omelettes.

Weetabix, yoghurt, fruit, toast with eggs, avocado or spreads, porridge or other low sugar, high nutrient cereal with warm or cold milk.
20 minutes is enough time to allow for a proper breakfast.

The key will be him getting up before 7:00 am, being organised the night before and having breakfast options easily available. He won't take long to get into a good routine.

Practicing on the weekend will be helpful.

He or you could make some oat muffins, or you can do savoury ones with courgette and feta?
Make a batch of those and then he can pick one up each day. Freeze half for later in the week or next week. Homemade flapjacks/cereal bars might be good as well?

Mine tend to have toast, bagels or crumpets with peanut butter; porridge; weetabix or fruit, yogurt and granola for breakfast. If they were in a rush I’d give them a peanut butter and banana sandwich to eat on the way.

As a rule, if he's sorting himself entirey, DS has cereal or toast/bagel with peanut butter. Ver occassionally he might make himself scrambled egg but very seldom as he doesn't have time. I think cereal or toast/bagel is fine though if that's the only option.

We make waffles regularly for DD and leave extra for him to eat when he comes down.

I sometimes do overnight oats the night before or, if I've got time in the morning, airfryer banana muffins.

Bagel
Toast
Cereal
Yogurt

Are the usual options in our house

DinnaeFashYersel · 01/07/2024 10:04

At high school age they should be able to sort their own.

@Verite1 we do muffin tray omlettes. Literally exactly the same mix as for an omelette so eggs, a bit of milk, butter, cheese, herbs plus extras like ham, chopped peppers etc. Cook in the oven in a muffins tray until done.

Ilikesweets · 01/07/2024 20:28

Sorry, muffin tray... autocorrect!
