Substitute for clotted cream in main dishes?

I have recently been using Gousto and I notice that they used clotted cream in recipes eg sauces or curries. I have not seen this before and would prefer to use something cheaper when I copy their recipes. Would double cream be Ok?

I must admit I've never heard of clotted cream being used in cooking - sacrilege! It's too delicious and should only be eaten with strawberries or on scones, or straight from the pot mmmmmmmm.
Double cream would be fine in sauces and things, I use that.

Double cream is fine.

It's possibly because clotted cream does not need to be refrigerated until opened?

Use double cream, Greek yogurt, whatever you have on hand.

Crème Fraîche?

I use creme fraiche as well when I'm doing a gousto recipe, I particularly like their version of butter chicken for a quick curry.

Mascarpone, but it’s probably going to cost the same.

I'm pretty sure it does. It is only ever found in fridges in supermarkets.

Clotted cream - in a main?? Gross

Scissorsisters · 17/06/2024 00:21

Apologies. I meant to write ‘delivered’ not ‘opened’. It’s usual for clotted cream to be sent by post, unrefrigerated, for next-day delivery.

Thanks all! Will use standard double cream or similar.
