Supposed to be doing butter chicken for dinner but completely forgot to take chicken out of the freezer. They've been in the supermarket freeze part of freezer so they're not thawing out any time soon 😭 what's the absolute quickest way to defrost them? Please help 🙏

I'd keep it in the wrapper & submerge in tepid water, then change the water as it cools down.

Quickest way is under running water. You'd have to be careful for hygiene, though. Next quickest way is in a bowl of water.

Yes submerge in water, and then finish on the "blow" part of your fan oven. Make sure it doesn't get warm though. Once defrosted put back in fridge. I do this a lot. It's just like giant chickeny ice-cubes which melt in the water. (Assuming it's chicken pieces)

Out in a sealable bag and submerge in water. I did this last week for a bbq with chicken thighs and a massive steak 10cm thick and they defrosted within a couple of hours.

If it’s chicken breast, I’d have left it out for a couple of hours and then cut it into small pieces once it’s started to defrost. It defrosts really quickly after that.

My 20mo is going to be eating it so looks like a bowl of water is the way to go. I've been told to use the microwave but it just doesn't sit right with me for some reason. Thank you everyone 😁

A whole chicken? Or thighs/breasts?

If whole id do the submerged in water (will need to change the water a few times as obvs the temperature of the chicken will bring it down). If portions then I give them a whack with a cleaver/rolling pin and separate still frozen. Lay them on cling film on the stainless steel drainer and cover. Defrost pretty quick like that.

I always transfer it into a sealable freezer bag before submerging in cold water, as quite often supermarket packaging can be too thick to allow it to defrost properly in water. And then change the water regularly.

If it rises to the top rather than sit on the bottom, I place a lid from a cooking pot on top.

Yes it's breast fillets so will try separating them. Thank you

In the oven on the rack with a plate below on the fan/defrost setting, no heat.

Snozzlemaid · 07/06/2024 15:22

I always defrost breast in the microwave

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 07/06/2024 15:59

I always use the microwave to defrost chicken pieces. To defrost anything actually
