Throwing a bbq for 7 adults and 3 kids (one adult vegetarian). Ordering a big Tesco delivery. What would be in your shopping list? Advice appreciated for must haves, the first time I'm throwing a big bbq!

Are you happy to make sides, marinate meats etc yourself or are you looking for suggestions of ready prepped stuff?

Don't forget ketchup, plus your choice of mustard, BBQ sauce, mayo and salt if you're doing burgers and hot dogs. And napkins.

Veg kebabs to break up all the meat and carbs? Shop bought or homemade. Also obviously the vegetarian can eat them.

And just a reminder in case the vegetarian isn't someone you regularly cook for, that they might want theirs cooked on a section of the BBQ that hasn't had meat on. This has caught me out before.

Blankets, gazebo and golf umbrellas Grin

Joking apart, I find cheap sausages and burgers disappointing and not worth cracking the barbecue out for.

So, decent quality sausages, burgers (if you must), chicken breasts, which I cube and marinade in soy sauce and olive oil before skewering. If you are doing chicken drumsticks I would precook them then finish on the barbecue.

Courgettes, mushrooms, onions, peppers and halloumi for vegetable kebabs (make sure you have enough skewers.

Bread rolls, potato salad, other salad, ketchup and mustard. Soft drinks for anyone who is driving or not drinking.

Depends how simple you want to keep it.
When we do bbq we keep it relatively simple / low prep
Burgers and sausages with enough baps and rolls. Enough really for people to have one of each.
Also get some lamb chump streaks from local butchers.
Have a couple of vegetarians in our group - they quite like the Linda McCartney veggie burgers, but might bring their own bits.
We do a large pasta salad that includes mozzarella/olives and a few other bits.
Cherry toms, cucumber etc
Maybe a potato salad - we do one that is pots, mayo and mango chutney mixed in.
We have some tortillas and dips/olives/nibbley bits for the time before bbq food is ready. These always get hoovered up.
Always have something as "pudding" - sometimes the mini cake bites they do in tescos - millionaire shortbread etc. Marshmallows (and kebab sticks) for the kids.
Plenty of drinks / fluids! Although people often bring a bottle too. We sometimes have boxed wine as is easier (some are nice).
Tend to use plastic plates, but have used paper before if can't be bothered to wash up everything!
Napkins and sauces.

I'm nicking some of your lovely ideas @Topbird29

I'd say do a few things really well rather than lots of variety.
Think about how much space you have on your bbq and plan accordingly.

I find skewers tend to go down well.
I'd do tandoori chicken and pepper and red onion
Lemon and garlic prawns,
Haloumi with pepper and courgette (drizzle haloumi with honey)

Really nice with flat breads or pitas just flashed on the bbq

Then I'd do some beef burger with nice rolls and all the add ons, sliced red onion, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, gherkins, relish, mayo, a choice of cheddar or blue cheese that can be melted on.

I'd do a homemade apple coleslaw, sweet potato salad, roasted veg cous cous, a Greek salad, green salad and a plate of sliced tomatoes with mozzarella, basil and slivers of red onion, drizzled with balsamic, plenty of salt and black pepper.

I definitely recommend this bbq seasoning www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/254777561 It’s so versatile.
Nando’s Perinaise was a big hit with most people at our last bbq.
Slices of watermelon are great as a pudding
I also regularly use this coleslaw kit which saves a lot of faff with chopping up all the veg https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/302988699
