I didn't boil runner beans. Will I die?

I fried the hell out of them for about 15 minutes. They were piping hit albeit a bit squeaky when eating. Tasted nice. Got them from Tesco and just washed them and threw them onto the pan. Aren't they poisonous? Will I get really sick?

For if you open a scarlet-flowering mature runner bean, one too fat and long for eating, you will find the prettiest beans inside.

Clearly those of us talking about eating them raw are eating them before the actual beans have matured. Well before the beans are full size and toxic, by which time the pods are too coarse, too fat and long to be eaten good raw.

I think some people are more sensitive than others. I've never eaten them raw, but I gave some from the garden (not stringy) to my DD who ate some raw and had a badly upset stomach. She didn't die fortunately. Cooked, no problem.

I have memories of standing in my grandad’s garden eating the runner beans fresh off the plant. Still alive.

I spent my childhood eating them raw fresh from my grandparents garden. I was about 18 and a couple of years before my mum and aunt had been ill after eating and discovered the toxic effects. I happened to be in granny's kitchen with a freshly picked bowl so I happily helped myself. My parents were on holiday and my boyfriend ended up ringing his mum as he was so concerned about my vomiting!!!

I grow them every year and feel like I'm an absolute rebel when I eat a little bit raw 😂
