Favourite lunch option on cafe menu?

As the title says really! Trying to get an idea of favourite lunch options on a cafe menu. My sister is opening a cafe in a popular market town and wants to offer a traditional but beautifully done menu so I'd love to know your favourite lunch options and anything you'd like to see more or less of. Thank you! X

Not sure what happened !
No soup 4 so pretentious ,should be written soup £4.00 on menu.

LaMarschallin · 05/05/2024 11:37

DH and I have been talking about this thread and are quite invested now.
Hope you'll let us know how things turn out, OP (appreciate that it won't be for some time).
We promise to visit, if at all possible, if you feel it's okay to tell us where it is when it opensSmile

Foodfiend500 · 05/05/2024 18:42

tsmainsqueeze, I so agree with you on the 4/4.00 front!

Maddy70 · 05/05/2024 18:47

Home made soup and crusty bread

Hot beef and onion sandwich with gravy

Quiche

Jacket potatoes (proper crunchy skin)

Nice sandwiches

Cream scones

LadyChilli · 05/05/2024 19:31

Soup and a half sandwich.

Or a really tasty filling salad with the option to add grilled chicken/salmon/halloumi.

Tea always in a decent size pot and for the love of God don't give me the teabag on the side. I don't mind paying more for a big pot.

It's not lunch exactly but every cafe should always sell millionaires shortbread. It's such a favourite.

Shakshuka

Doseofreality · 05/05/2024 19:41

Simple food, done well, with good quality ingredients. I’d much rather have less on my plate than have a plate stuffed with cheap tasteless stuff.

My favourite cafe does an amazing toasted chicken sandwich (fresh thick bread is a must) with these amazing sweet potato fries.

Everything on this menu is to die for!!!!! 😍

@LaMarschallin absolutely! Thank you so much!

Thank you to everyone - this is invaluable research and my sister is thrilled with all the suggestions xx

An egg mayo and cress sandwich or a tuna mayo and cucumber sandwich or a prawn sandwich, all on sliced wholemeal bread

A traditional toasted tuna sandwich on wholemeal bread NOT a panini and not with mozzarella or sundried tomato or aubergine caviar or anything else

A slice of homemade quiche, warm

Option for a few really good homemade chips AND a yummy side salad

Homemade soup (that's not carrot and coriander) with a big portion of decent bread

Homemade cakes (coffee and walnut)

Lovely coffee

If possible, get a coffee maker / bean grinder that is not too noisy

Clean toilets

Jeannne92 · 05/05/2024 19:53

Oh and homemade potato salad or coleslaw (on the side of sandwiches or quiche)

TakeOnFlea · 05/05/2024 19:57

Tuna melt panini
Bacon brie and cranberry panini
Option to add a cup of soup

y0rkier0se · 05/05/2024 20:00

Ooh a really decent ham sarnie (crusty white bread, proper butter, off the bone ham) with the option to add chips 😋

Soup and half a sandwich is a great idea. One of my guilty pleasures is tomato soup with a cheese sandwich. And yes, I dip it in.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 06/05/2024 10:01

Tuna melt, jacket potato with cheese & beans or coleslaw, ham & cheese toastie, homemade soup, macaroni cheese, French toast & maple syrup + bacon, ice cream float drink.

Jeannne92 · 06/05/2024 11:25

Oh yes to jacket potato (with tuna, obvs) and to a mug of soup as a side/addition with sandwiches, etc.

Daffsarealwaysyellow · 06/05/2024 11:57

Aargh, I loathe drinking soup from a mug. It feels really, really wrong. Something to do with the texture. And how do you deal gracefully with any lumps? Bowl and spoon for me please, every time.

poetryandwine · 06/05/2024 11:59

I am another who likes half a sandwich with my soup. Soup and bread roll is an evening starter, or a very light meal when you need more veg but don’t feel like eating

True, I wouldn't drink the soup, but use a soon (admittedly awkwardly for the bottom of a mug). I was using mug to mean small bowl; I appreciate this is not very clear!

On the other hand, I drink coffee out of a bowl happily in the mornings!

ThePoshUns · 06/05/2024 16:45

Halloumi and salad wrap
Good cheese on toast
Toasted sandwiches
Homemade soup with a nice crusty roll
Fry up

foxrobin · 09/05/2024 22:23

Perfect! Thank you everyone, you're all superstars!

BreakfastAtMimis · 09/05/2024 22:32

Soup with a cheese and herb scone
Bacon, brie and cranberry panini
Eggs Benedict/Florentine

But regardless of how nice the menu is, if a cafe lets bloody dogs in, I won't be lunching there.

NeverendingRabbitHole · 09/05/2024 22:33

French Onion soup with cheese on toast crouton.

You can't get it anywhere - I've been on the lookout for 25 years
