Lasagne for tea tomorrow night and I need to transport it to my partner's house, the only issue is I'm out most of the day tomorrow do do I:

1, assemble and cook it tonight let it cool and take it over cold and reheat it
2, make it tomorrow and take it over fresh out the oven

My home made lasagne is always better if cooked and reheated.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/05/2024 18:28

Agreed. I'd do it tonight and re-heat tomorrow.

Cerialkiller · 01/05/2024 18:28

How long is the journey? If less then 30 mins then take over freshly cooks. Imo it's way better fresh out of the oven. You could prepare the red sauce before hand which might save time but I think cheese sauce always suffers being cooked and reheated, lasagne is always dry second time round.

Or you could assemble it today, take it over and then cook it there?

I'd do this. I like freshly cooked lasagne but I also think it's better if it's had a while to sit together before it cooks.

Option 1

WhatALump · 01/05/2024 18:49

Option one. Freshly cooked will be hot and wobbly for a long time and could slide out of the dish if you brake too hard!

NailsHairNipsHeels · 01/05/2024 21:14

I'm going gif option 1.
He's only 20mins away but there's a good chance I'd end up with boiling hot lasagne splattered all over the car. I had t worked out the logistics for getting there.
I bolognese is cooking so it will be assembled in about an hour fingers crossed it turns out well 🤞🏼

Lasagne generally slices better if it rests for a while after cooking because it has a chance to reabsorb liquid and solidify a little. If you have a good way to maintain its integrity while travelling, I’d cook it at home then serve after travelling.

Or I’d assemble but not bake and bake it there. Reheating after a full cook already would be my bottom option.

NailsHairNipsHeels · 01/05/2024 22:53

So I've assembled it tonight.
I'll bake it tomorrow afternoon once I get home and will need to work out how I'm transporting a bubbling lasagne. Thankfully only 20min drive so I'll just need to secure it

I think I did this once by placing some towels on the car seat then putting the lasagna dish on top - the weight made it sink into the towels and created a short of lasagna-shaped bowl shape to hold it in place.

NailsHairNipsHeels · 02/05/2024 17:04

I'm using the sofa throw I'm hoping for the same results to ensure safe transport, it's on cooking. Salad, wine a d garlic bread will
Be far easier to transport!

This is what I'd do.
